Caboose A14ers - sleep regression??

I had hoped we skipped this 4 month sleep regression. DS is 18 weeks born 4/24. This is night 3 of hell. Tonight I went to bed at 8 figuring I would be up early. I didn't expect 9:15! I have yet to get him back down. He is currently asleep in arms. The second I put him down....eyeballs fly open. I. Need. Sleep!!!!!!!! So frustrating ! To anyone else going through same..I feel your pain! To those who have come out the other side..you are strong women!!!

Re: Caboose A14ers - sleep regression??

  • Boys have 11 days left of their wonder "week." (Due date was 4/24)

It was hard with both of them going through it at once. I was up every hr to feed them because they wanted to snack. It gets better and better as the week progresses, promise!

  • Aw shucks ;) it's just more time consuming at night. Most MoMs bottle feed and that helps a lot.

  • 17 weeks 2 days. Sometimes (though rarely) he *only* sleeps 8 consecutive hours. Does that count?
  • Wait how is your baby 4/24/14 and 18 weeks?
  • It was bad for us for a couple of weeks. Then she was sleeping 11 hours straight at night but the daytime sleep fell apart. Now she is teething and the daytime sleep still stinks and she is up every three hours at night. She would be latched onto me 24 hours a day if I would let her. I am really, really hoping it gets better soon!

  • My baby girl was born on the 21st and has been in her sleep regression for about a week. The night before last she slept through the night, but that was the first time in a while. I can't complain though. Her "regression" is only waking up once in the middle of the night anywhere from 3:30-6. She gets super fussy by 8, so I learned to start putting her to bed a lot earlier.

  • Were almost at 18 weeks. Born 5/1. he slept through the night once at 16 weeks but at least was getting predictable and only waking twice a night. He had surgery this Tuesday to fix his lip and nose (cleft lip and palate) so we are in a different boat but he doesn't nap unless its on us and will not sleep anywhere else except his swing.
  • @knotty-girl‌ .. I don't think I understand ? He was born 4/24 and was 18 weeks last Thursday.

Oh because my LO was born on the 21st and my tracker was saying 17 weeks 2 days, but it's wrong.
  • My kid has always been a crappy sleeper.

  • Baby has her first cold too. No sleep in this house!
  • 4/25 here and sleep regression has been affecting us for a month if feels like! I miss my little newborn who slept straight from 10-6 :(

  • She had a fluke night last night but seems better tonight sleeping for 8 hours straight.... Hoping the fluke night stays a fluke
  • I think we just came out the other side, but it wasnt near as bad as some people have described. He was just waking once in the night.
  • Omg I was just about to post this. Coe was born on the 21st and here we are night three of ridiculous! We used to get up once a night at 2 then sleep till 6. Now it's every hour and a half!!! It was ok at newborn stage cause I didn't have to go to work all day but this is going to KILL me. Those of you on the other side....how long did this last for?
  • DD was born 5/3 (due 4/28) and has been having slight regression the past couple weeks.
Went from sleeping 10-7 to sleeping 8-7 with a wake-up between 3 and 4 and then again at 5:30ish up for the day between 6:30 and 7. It's also started taking at least 2, sometimes 3 or 4 tries before she's really down for the night.
I'm really hoping this is it but I'm terrified it's just going to get worse :(

    Us, too. It's AWFUL.

:| is this a serious response?
  • Our sleep regression started when she turned 3 months and I'd say it has been noticeably better for about a week now (she's 5 months and a few days). So.... 8 weeks long.
  • Oh @MamaFantastic‌ ...I hope your baby starts sleeping through the night soon!!! You deserve the sleep ! That's a long sleep regression !
  • Born 4/17 and well, naps suck sometimes, well, most of the dang time. As far as STTN, he's still doing good. I, on the other hand, wake up at least once every night for no apparent reason. Insomnia maybe? Not sure but hopefully this goes away soon, it's so peaceful when he finally naps. He also wakes up with the best attitude ever. Stay strong mamas! I-)
  • @KendraColeslaw‌ we're in the same boat...knock on wood.

Never mind that idea.... Last night was bad- slept 6 hours than up every 1.5. It's not even 8 am and she is already napping; hope it's a long nap! I really thought we'd skip the dreaded regression :-(
  • Up from straight from 2:45 - 4:45 last night :(

  • My LO was born 4/26 and we have been waking up 5-8 times a night for at least 6 or 7 weeks now. Goes down fine drowsy but awake, but wakes up very upset after a few hours and REFUSES to go back to sleep in his crib. Wakes back up every single time.

Has anyone else been through this and have an idea that'll work? Not wanting to let him cry, but the lack of sleep is brutal now that I'm back at work.

My baby might be an extreme example, but he started right around 3 months and we are still going now about 7 weeks later...though the past 3 nights I have started to see improvement. I still wouldn't say we are out of it yet, but I'm hoping we are just around the corner. What I would give for only 2-3 wakings a night....DS peaked at 8 wakings a night.

I would say the average I have seen is 2-3 weeks. So we are extreme, like I said. But each baby is different and it's impossible to really tell.

I started following the suggestions outlined in the No Cry Sleep Solution and we have seen progress. Biggest one for us was to teach him how to fall asleep without the paci in his mouth, or really any sort of thing meant to lull him because in the MOTN it wouldn't be there.

This, except it's been eight weeks here.  Last weekend he was pretty much doing 2 hours all night long which was an improvement.

  • So, to all moms who are on the other side: What's the trick? To just ride it out? We're considering gentle sleep training...is now not the rt time? E has been waking up every 1.5-2 hours for about two weeks.

I can't tell you what is right for you.  For us, since he was/is soooo bad about it, I made a deal with myself.  First, I'd just wait out the six weeks to see if it got better.  If he was still having trouble at 5 months, I'd try No Cry Sleep Solution.  If he continues to have this trouble by six months, we will reconsider stepped soothing.

There's no real trick, unfortunately. Our pedi gave us the go away for stepped soothing at 4mo and I wasn't ready. But about 1.5-2 weeks after that appt, Liam showed that he was ready to go to sleep drowsy (we had been rocking him) and that he was ready to be in swaddled (started rolling all over) which then made DH and I ready gel stepped soothing (he's never cried longer than 3 minutes without us going in there...) it was a very rough couple of weeks and there are definitely nights better and worse than others... But we're definitely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • We do modified CIO now. My goal is to help her feel secure in her bed, and learn to settle herself. She's doing a great job! If she whines a bit, I give her space to work it out alone (which she usually does without progressing to screaming). If she wails, there's usually something wrong and I go in to help. I don't want her to give up and go to sleep out of desperation... I want her to develop self soothing skills within the context of just enough attention to keep her feeling secure and "heard".

That said, sometimes she's ornery and overtired and can't get out of her own way, and she does cry for a bit as she releases pre-sleep energy. As she has matured, I've really seen her show us that she can handle those brief periods of crying. There's no panic in her voice when she does it. That's the difference btw a 5 month old and a 2 month old cry.
