Quirky, nerdy, however you want to classify them. These are all some names I like that dh is concerned are too "nerdy" sounding. He likes some of them but he's hesitant.
I'm afraid your DH is right. Those are some pretty nerdy names. Several of them are go to names on TV shows or in books when they have a nerdy character, especially Neville & Sheldon.

They aren't necessarily bad at all, but I can see them being seen as a bit nerdy. It's kind of in fashion though right now. I like Neville, Norman and Sheldon.
Okay. This is fun. I'll rate them on the Nerdy scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "totally non-nerdy" and 10 being "your child will be beaten up daily." I think there are a few names here that aren't too bad.
Norman -- 7. Pretty nerdy. I wouldn't use it. Neville -- 4. The Harry Potter character of this name was nerdy, but also a hero. It's nerdy-cute. Sheldon -- 5. It's nerdy alright, but I went to hs with a guy named Sheldon, and he totally pulled it off. His last name started with "sh" also, so it was really an odd combo. He was a great soccer player and a nice guy. Hamilton -- 6. Sounds nerdy-snobby. I dislike this one more for the snobby factor than the nerdy factor. Nelson -- 8. This name just screams "annoying nerd."
I think your DH is right, those are all pretty nerdy. And I'm kind of a nerd, so feel as though I have some authority on the subject. The one I like best would be Sheldon, because of Big Bang, the one least would be Neville... I can almost hear the nasal whine.

Norman - Not a fan of the name, but it doesn't seem nerdy. Just old fashioned. Neville - Adore this name! Love! (but I like nerdy names, and Neville is a BAMF from Harry Potter) Sheldon - After Big Bang Theory, this definitely seems nerdy. Hamilton - I like this name, though I think of it more as a surname. Nelson - Another Surname, it's okay though.
I like Neville and I could handle Norman cause Norman Reedus certainly isn't nerdy, but I think Sheldon is very nerdy, Hamilton is too much of a last name for me, and Nelson will always be the bully from The Simpsons. "Ha-ha!"
DH's grandfather is named Norman and I would love to honor him, but I just can't do it as a FN. Sheldon and Neville are kind of nerdy to me. Hamilton is just random last name but not nerdy. Nelson doesn't strike me as nerdy, but it's my sister's FI's name so maybe it's just that I have a non-nerdy association with it.

Norman - went to HS with a guy named this, after his dad. He went by Norm and was moderately popular, although a little annoying. I wouldn't call him a nerd. I don't like the sound of the name, though Neville - I love the Harry Potter character, wouldn't use the name Sheldon - all I think of is the Big Bang character. The name feels a bit soft to me. I also think people may use the nickname Shelly which I hate on a man Hamilton - doesn't seem nerdy to me, but feels a little snobby Nelson - reminds me of Nelson Mandela - definitely not a bad association in my mind. I don't see it as a nerdy name. A lot of people would probably also associate it with the Simpsons character, though
I like Neville and Nelson from your list. I actually know a little boy named Sheldon and it just doesn't suit a young child. Not because it's popular from big bang, but just because it sounds like an old man name.
Yeah, I think these names are pretty nerdy and are opening up your kid to being teased. Ever see that George Carlin skit about boy names? Sorry, but I feel like these are just what he was referring to.
