Working Mama

Hi ladies:
Looking for opinions from our vet moms out there (or even those who have started commuting with morning sickness): I commute 1.75 hours each way to work two to three times a week (thank goodness for my home office!) via train. Any advice on how to stay awake/feel ok during the commute?

Re: Working Mama

  • Travel air-sick bags just in case. I never thought of them through my own first pregnancy, but I'm planning to order some for this time. Not glamorous, but at least you'll have an option!

Otherwise some kind of snack, lemon water helped, ice chips, calm breathing and meditation.

If you're finding the train ride particularly hard to cope with ask you Dr for zofran, even if you only need it while you travel.

  • During my first pregnancy I had a nearly 2 hr commute each way on the subway and train.

I agree with roastytoasty, bring a bag! I never had to use it but it made me feel better.

I also had to leave my house extra early, because one of the things that helped me the most was getting off the subway if it was too crowded or too hot and waiting for the next train. Not ideal.
I used the anti-nausea bracelets and loved ginger chews!

I sometimes slept on the train on the way home, because my stop was the end of the line. They were the best naps.

    Good luck!

  • Right now saltines and tums are my best friends. I've been worried too because I do a lot of driving for my job and afraid I'll be pulling over a lot to barf or take a nap! The bag idea is great. I'll have to do that.
  • Try taking a lime with you a scrapping it with your nails...then smell it. It helped me.

  • Amazing advice ladies!!!! I'm going to order some air sickness bags today and hopefully I can learn to nap on transit!
  • I too commute by train. I try to bring on snacks as well as water but then make sure I know where the bathroom is. I like to listen to podcasts or audiobooks to help past the time. If I am feeling sleepy I always make sure to set my alarm for a couple minutes before my stop. I didn't do this one day and ended up on the train for an extra 30 minutes past my stop.

  • Setting a phone alarm for a few mins before your stop is a brilliant idea!!!
