Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Does anyone have experience with this during pregnancy? Thanks to Dr. Google, I'm pretty sure this is what I'm dealing with. I'm going to mention it to my doctor, but just wanted some feedback from others.

Basically, I wake up in the middle of the night with numb hands/arms. It isn't every night, but it happened again recently and I thought about how I don't remember it happening recently, but I know I had the same sensation during my first pregnancy. It's only ever at night.

Anyway, I'm Just curious if anyone has thoughts about what else it could be or if there are suggestions for dealing with it.

Happy Long Weekend!

Re: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

  • I'm in the pregnancy carpal tunnel group to. With my first pregnancy I developed it in my 3rd tri, and wore a brace the last few weeks. My 2nd pregnancy it flared up right away, this time in both hands, I wore braces on them my entire pregnancy. I'm almost 8 weeks now and my right hand has started to flare up. The braces really help, I don't suffer from it when I'm not pregnant so I've never considered surgrey.

  • I experienced this with my 2nd pregnancy. No symptoms yet with this pregnancy.
Sorry you are dealing with it so early!
  • I have CTS but also get flare ups of ganglion cysts on my wrists from all the typing I do. They make the numbness worse than CTS is. They are just overfilled fluid between joints. If you bend your hand down they'd appear as obvious lumps on your wrist.
  • I had CT every day from 6 months on with my first. It sucked. My hands hurt and went numb every time I had to write something, and it woke me up in the night more often than I care to admit. I hope for your sake that this is not what you are dealing with already, but if so, a little bit of hope: it went away immediately after I gave birth. So...light at the end of the tunnel?

If it persists, using a brace (I got my at a drug store) helped to control the symptoms somewhat.

  • I had it my last pregnancy around 30 weeks and I couldn't even hold a
Pen. I contemplated leaving work to start maternity because I couldn't do anything at work. I got the injections and holy moley did it hurt but it worked. Got me through the rest of the pregnancy and I never had another issue after :) it's awful and I feel for you. Totally painful and debilitating! I wish you the best!! Braces did not help!!
  • I wear a wrist brace at night (available at the pharmacy). It helps a lot.
  • I had it with all my pregnancies and I have a wrist brace also. Hope you find relief:)
