Just an FYI to anyone contemplating seeing The Giver (even if you've read the book). They kill a newborn on screen and imply at the killing of many others.

We just got home from the movie and I totally ugly cried during the part you mentioned then I was just an emotional mess for the remainder of it. We had completely forgotten about that part from the book. So yes, I agree with you, I would strongly advise that any pregnant women or women who have experienced the loss of a baby to avoid seeing it unless they're prepared.
I really liked the book when I read it and was excited to see the movie but I forgot about that part. I think I'll wait until the DVD comes out and watch it at home. Thanks for the heads up.
