How did your husband/partner react?

Or did you take the test together?

I'm an obsessive tester and started testing at..oh...7DPO or something crazy. So I knew before him! Didn't know how to tell him but just ended up having our son go into our room in the morning holding the (cap on, wiped clean) test. My husband just looked at me and said "yeah?" I said "yup" and that was about it. Kind of anti-climactic but that is his style. He is the best dad but the WORST at getting excited/reacting to surprises, gifts etc. haha

How did your husband or partner take it? Tears of joy? High fives all around? Drop an f bomb?

  • DH was so so excited! He cried-- just a few tears haha. I had ordered a onesie with our undergrad alma mater on it, and it was delivered that day. I decided to test for Ss and Gs (at 8 dpo) not expecting anything, and it was positive!! DH came home from work while I was still in the bathroom waiting for the digital test to turn. I had grand plans of coming up with a cute way to give him the onesie, but I was caught off guard and pretty much just shoved it at him with the positive digi because formulating real sentences was hard lol

  • I am always over the top with my announcements when we get pregnant so this one was no exception.  Thursday was our 4 yr wedding anniversary, and I sent DS off with his uncle (DH took him there) and when he got home I had made him a candle lit dinner. He thought it was for our anniversary (which it sorta was).  I made him his favorite dinner and underneath his food on the plate was written "we're pregnant" so when he ate his food and saw it he said really?!?!  And got up and we hugged and kissed.  With 2 losses and 15 months of trying since DS #1 we try to stay cautiously optimistic.

  • He was totally shocked.  I took two tests - one right when I woke up, and another after I ate breakfast, right before I got into the shower.  I came out of the bathroom and he was still in bed.  I grabbed his foot and was like, "Uhh, I have to tell you something, I think I'm pregnant."  I don't remember what he said next but I think it was probably a nervous laugh. We were both caught off guard!

I took a test and it was pos so I was going to wait to tell him since he was out of town but I would have had to wait another week. So I sent a skype message asking "guess what?" And this was his reply

    image

Can you tell he wants a son....
  • I tested after he left for work not expecting a positive at all. We both thought we were out this cycle bc our timing wasn't the best. I called him and said "soooo I guess you have super sperm." He sounded kinda confused so I just flat out said "I'm pregnant!" He asked probably 3 times if I was joking. Haha

A few days ago DH said he thought we were pregnant. I blew him off because I had a bfn that morning. Today I woke him up by asking if he wanted to tell me "I told you so." and poked him in the back with the positive test.

His reaction? "Get the fuck out of here! I knew it!" It was perfect.
  • He never believes me because I test so early and the line is so faint. I have to convince him with a digi. He was happy but nervous because of our prior losses.

  • I took a test in the morning but wasn't 100% convinced since the test said it expired 8/2014 so after work I bought a digital test and it was positive. My husband was going to the bathroom were the still was so I showed him. He just said "you're pregnant? " Really? "With a huge grin.

  • I took the test without telling DH but he had been telling me I was pregnant for a week. I walked downstairs and said "so I might have just got a positive pregnancy test." Then we both laughed our heads off. I was too impatient to plan anything cute.

  • @sugar4bri‌ it only takes one! ;)
For us it was a little different. We knew when my Beta would be but the day before I spotted just a bit. I freaked and took a test thinking we had a failed cycle. But then the test (digital) said "pregnant"! I was shocked and a bit scared because I've list three prior to this. I went out to the garage where DH was and showed him. He was cautiously optimistic. Told me to call the nurse and to think positive. Of course the nurse said the spotting was normal with the progesterone inserts I'm on which I knew. But just needed reassurance. Next day when we were waiting for my HCG numbers he kept bugging me. "Have they called yet?" I knew he was excited. But of course the lab forgot to fax our results to my RE so at 4pm I'm calling in a panic. It was a Friday and I could not wait until Monday! About 4:45 they finally called with my numbers which were awesome and put us at ease. At least for awhile. ;) then he instantly started calling me momma and talking baby names :)

  • I wanted to tell him in a really cute way but that didn't happen. It was the day he left for almost 6 months of military training. I was only 9 dpo so I wasn't expecting anything but had to at least try. FMU gave me the faintest possible line. I wasn't even sure I saw it and he said he didn't see it. So we just decided he would find out over the phone if I got a positive another day. But then I didn't drink anything for the next 3-4 hours and tested again about an hour and a half before we left to take him to the airport without him knowing. It was an obvious BFP and I asked him to come in the bathroom to help me with something. When he came to the doorway I showed him and said, "I'm pregnant!" We have a baby gate up to keep the dog out of the cat's litter box, so we stood there with the baby gate between us hugging. I may have also cried. A lot. Haha then while we waited at the airport we picked a name for a girl and talked about all kinds of details. He couldn't wipe the smile off of his face.
  • I wasn't able to tell H right away because we have a lot going on lately and I hadn't had the right opportunity to tell him. We met for lunch the next day and as we were eating I looked at his diet coke and said, "Man I could go for a diet coke, I wish I could have one." Luckily he picked up on it and his eyes got HUGE and he whispered "you're pregnant?!" haha. He is excited.
  • I just put my test infront of him and all he said is "what's that mean " lol. I told him two lines it's positive, im pregnant. And he smiled got up and hugged me. It was still surreal to him.

  • Its been a very long journey for us.  I'm a kindergarten teacher and I'm getting ready to go back to school.  I came home from working at school all day to change before I had an event to meet our new students.  I wasn't going to test until this weekend but for some reason I decided to.  The second line came up immediately.  I ran downstairs and waved the stick in his face while I was sobbing.  He was super excited but we are both super scared given our previous loss and our issue with secondary infertility.  A few minutes later I realized that it was the one year anniversary (to the day) of when we lost our last little bean.

  • So many of you have cute stories! I had been testing like every day for a week, and the day after my expected period I finally had a second line. We just kind of talked about whether or not it really was a second line. He then went to the drugstore to get a Clearblue and it came back with "Pregnant", he gave me a high five. No cute story for us!

  • I was up at 5:30 to go to a 6am spin class and was testing my FMU with a Wondfo (had been about every other day for a week because my cycle is so strange). Saw a very light line, but DH was still asleep. On my way back from the gym, I picked up a digital (I had saved my FMU in a cup in the medicine cabinet - hot, right?) and dipped it. Sure enough, positive! Of course DH was out for a long walk with DD and our dog, so I had to wait until he got home. I just handed him the digital and smiled... he said, "Really?" and was very excited :) Neither of us could really believe that it happened this quickly!

We have similar stories. I can still remember my first pregnancy and how excited DH was. He hugged me and picked me up off the ground and I was still on the phone with the nurse from the REs office. Lol. It's still exciting after losses but scary. I'm just taking one day at a time and trying to get past my milestone. Sending sticky vibes to you. :)

  • @twinkletoes3126 I'm in your boat. It was more of a - 'does this mean what I think it means?' 'Cool' kind of deal. Talking about it later, he said, "I'm going to need more whisky." I said he'd need to drink enough for us both.

I was a little underwhelmed by the response until I eavesdropped on him nerding out w/MIL about what colors the nursery should be. Too cute.

  • I thought we were completely out this cycle. I woke up one morning and decided to POAS just for kicks. It turned out positive. I got my husband a goody bag of candy around the theme of kids (cry babies, sour patch kids, mini chocolate, Hershey nuggets, baby Ruth). I didn't give it to him until later that night. He immediately caught on and thought I was joking until I POAS again. He's been so excited.
  • My hubby's reaction in the days since has been better than the morning I told him. He will often just look at me with a huge smile on his face and say "I'm so happy". And that's pretty cool and means the world to me.
  • I took an FRER on 9dpo and got a faint (but noticeable) line. I ran into the bedroom to wake him up from a very deep sleep and turned the bright light on and he didn't see it! It was totally there so I left it on the bathroom counter for him and went to work. After his eyes were correctly adjusted he texted me with an, "OMG I see it!!"
