Post partum arthralgia (joint pain)/hair falling out

I was wondering if anyone else has painful joint pain still? I thought it would go away but I am still sore. Most days the arches of my feet, knees, hips and wrist are so sore. When doing a google search I learned that this is common but not how to manage the symptoms? Anyone have any non-medicated, BF safe treatments? I have thought about going to a Dr. but not sure what they can do for it.

Also PP issue my hair is falling out! Every time I run my fingers through my hair I get a handful. Sad I was liking the pregnancy hair. Back to thin hair.

I'm having pretty bad pain in hips and knees. And my hair is definitely falling out too. :(
  • Huh, I thought the joint pain was from carrying around the extra baby weight. I didn't know it was common.

Yep, starting losing hair 3 months pp with both kids. Beware that, at least for me, it grows back in super slowly. It's still growing back in from my pregnancy with my son and he's 22 months old (and now it will probably fall out again anyway).

  • Yes I'm still definatley getting joint pain, the hair loss just started. The joint pain happens in my hips and knees....so bad sometimes I feel like I cannot walk. Its usually worse after I'm running around all day and then sit to go to bed.

Oh Dr Google. Found this interesting and thought I would share. I have been having pretty consistent knee, hip and foot (weird) pain.

  • For those of you who are losin hair- did it happen when you stopped taking your prenatal vitamins or are you still taking them?
  • I still take them so it didn't start because of that.

I'm still taking my prenatal and I'll probably keep taking them until I'm past my childbearing age and yet I'm losing clumps of hair (just not the grays). It did seem like the hair loss ramped up as soon as I had my first really bad period (my first was super light). As someone else said, I think it's hormonal and not nutrition based.

  • I get my prenatal vitamins for free from meijer so I will keep taking them at least until after I have my 2nd and last baby :)
  • I also have some joint pain in my wrist and elbows but never assumed it was PP related. Wow! I also thought I was just out of shape and getting "old".

The other thing that's been bothering me is my feet hurt and seem tight when I get up to walk after sitting for a while. It doesnt last more than a few steps so im not concerned. I bet it's part of the same thing.

  • The joint pain is out of control.  I was told to wait 4-6 months and then go in to see if it is permanent.  I am praying it is not.

  • The hair loss is totally normal, going through it now after having my second.  Not fun at all!

I am defn hurting in my back, knee and hips, so I'm thankful for you post, so I know it's just not me!  I've been hurting and just thought it's b/c I'm getting old, lol and b/c I am still doing light exercise after my C-section.  I hope we are all feeling better soon!  I remember hurting after my first child, but can't remember how long I was sore for.

  • I never thought about the joint pain either. I have some in my ankles. I also hurt my knee from beginning to run too soon after baby (5 weeks) and I am starting physio for that next week.
