Strollers and smaller cars...

So I've been looking at strollers a lot lately and it just occurred to me that I should be looking not only for something safe, but something compact that fits in my car.

I drive a 2013 ford focus hatchback, it's a decent sized car with plenty of space for myself, husband and a baby in the back. At this point we've had it for a few years and are so close to paying it off that trading it in isn't even an option for us especially with a baby on the way and me being a SAHM after baby comes.

So I'm worried about any stroller fitting in the trunk of the car, we've been looking at jogging strollers because we're both active and would like to stay that way after baby comes. We don't want to have to buy more than one stroller either.

Does anyone have any strollers they can recommend that are good quality but compact enough to fit in a smaller car? I've been trying to read reviews on them but they don't ever touch on the size of the stroller when it's folded. We've been looking at Graco Brand strollers and car seats since my family with children have used their products and really enjoy them. It doesn't necessarily have to be a jogging stroller or Graco, but something that is good quality, affordable and or course fits well into our car.

Re: Strollers and smaller cars...

  • We had a baby trend jogger with DS and as long as I popped the back wheels off it was easy to get into the truck of my Chevy cavalier (pretty small car).

  • Britax b-agile

  • I drive a Pontiac Vibe hatchback.  I have one of the run of the mill bulky Evenflo strollers that come with travel systems.  I can close the hatch but have to be really mindful of where the wheels are to make sure I don't end up busting out the back window! haha

  • The Graco Aire 3 is a three wheel stroller and it folds pretty flat.

  • We had the UppaBaby Vista and it folds up really well.  Used it in our Civic.

As an FYI--because I certainly didn't know when I was pregnant with my daughter--running with a baby is not recommended until baby is six months old.  Even with the infant seat insert (I know the BOB has one).

Also, if you want to use a jogging stroller for jogging, make sure the description says you can. Some actually say "not intended for jogging." Completely bizarre.

And I'm going with the Chicco Liteway Plus that someone recommended and I think it's great, but wouldn't think it applied in this case if you want an all in one. I don't think it qualifies as all terrain. Good luck!
  • I have an older focus and my Bob fits fine in the trunk. We are looking for a different vehicle though, because there isn't enough room between the front seats and car seats. With DD the passenger seat has to be quite forward, and with #2 coming if the seat has to be so far forward DH wouldn't be able to drive! Ugh.
  •  I have a Baby Jogger Citi Mini and have absolutely loved it. It folds up quite small and it's very easy to maneuver in practically any scenario. Fit in my Honda Accord with plenty of space for other things. I even ran with it a bit but then invested in a BOB. The Bob was a million times easier to run with but significantly bigger. It fit in my trunk but there was almost no room for anything else. I also felt like while it handles very well space wise in general is just much bigger so I hate taking it in crowded places.

  • Have you checked the manufacturers' websites? From what I remember, most of them listed dimensions for both folded and unfolded.

The city mini is actually one of the strollers I was referring to... It says on their website that this stroller is NOT meant for jogging. Weird.
  • Thanks ladies! I will have to check them out! I know a lot of the websites list the dimensions but you never truley know how it's going to fit in your trunk till you try it I guess! I was looking at the Britax b-agile, I was thinking it was a little out of our price range (I don't think anyone will buy it for us if it's on our registry). But if it's a quality stroller and fits in smaller cars then I will look more into that one!
  • I drive a Focus, too. I have been eyeing the Graco Fastaction Jogger, but now that you mention it, I have no idea if it will fit in my car. :-/

That's the exact one I was looking at! I want to go to babies r us and ask them we can try to see how it fits in my trunk before we buy it haha
