Update- NBR T&P request for my furbaby

Just a quick update that furbaby did OK with surgery, she's awake, out of it from anesthesia but awake. We're picking her up shortly, we'll have to keep her crated and wearing a collar this weekend but so glad we can bring her home. Thanks for the T&Ps!

One of my dogs has to have unexpected surgery tomorrow :-( I noticed after work that my older girl wasn't playing like her usual self and saw from a distance that she had a red spot on one of her back legs, and saw when I got closer that it was a quarter-sized open wound that was definitely infected. The vet was able to see her this evening thank goodness, she said that it's a deep laceration down to the muscle (she showed me the leg muscle, awful), it's very infected and there's dead tissue so she has to remove that and stitch it back together. I have to drop her off in the morning and they might keep her overnight. I know it's a relatively minor surgery but she's 10 and I'm really worried about her getting anesthesia and possibly having a complication. And I feel *awful* that neither H nor I noticed before today, the vet said it happened days ago and it looks so painful, I wish that she would've let us know sooner that she was in pain! I feel like a terrible pet parent. So if you could spare some T&P for a smooth procedure tomorrow, I would really appreciate it! Thanks ladies.

Will sending TnP your way! I work in an animal hospital. We do surgeries like that all the time. It is really common. And you are not the first owners to not notice something like that so please don't beat yourself up too much. They are prob. doing an IV catheter but you can also chose to do bloodwork to make sure all is going normal in your dogs internal organs. Even if you call at 7:30am you will still be able to make that request. Good luck! Keep us posted on the outcome! (or if you have any other questions feel free to PM me)

Sending lots of T&Ps your way! I know how stressful it can be. Last year, at age 10, my Sheltie was under anesthesia 3 times: tarsal fusion surgery after rupturing ligaments in his hock, epulis removal/dental, and to have an endoscopy/biopsy of small intestines done. I was totally freaked each time, and luckily he made it through each with no complications.

At her age, chances are likely your vet wouldn't put her under unless her heart sounds good and blood work is normal, and I'm sure they will keep a very close eye on her during and after! ((HUGS))

The vet did check her all out tonight and took some blood to make sure everything looks ok before giving her the anesthesia. I just can't help but worry. Thanks for sharing knowledge and experiences!
