Yes what did you get! I have been meaning to start a post on what everyone drives! I have a Scion TC right now and while I'm sure I can make it work if a new car isn't do-able at the end of the year...I know how much of a pain in the rear it is to get a carseat in and out of a 2 door car!!!

  • @ally3242‌ @mbm1983‌ @vickersh1‌ I got a silver Citroen C5 nice and big so definitely enough room for car seats etc! It was my dad who made me change, I gave him a lift a couple of weeks ago and he actually got stuck getting out of the two door from the back seat!! He did so much giving out and telling me I would have no room when baby comes etc. that I just made the change! Thanks Dad :-@
  • Congrats on the new car! I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little jealous.

I literally just did the same thing over the weekend. I had a Ford Fusion, but it was terrible in the snow (I live in the northeast), so I needed something with AWD regardless. I ended up with the 2015 Subaru Outback. I love it and its big enough for baby and dogs!

On a side note, USUALLY I love the smell of a new car, but this time around, it makes me want to puke. I didnt think I would have an aversion to new car smell, but I want to barf every time I sit in my car lol.

  • Congrats! My DH has already started looking at vehicles. Truck is not big enough, don't care for having stick shift between my legs.
  • I need a new car too before baby gets here. I drive a 2013 Mini Cooper, and my fiancé has a 1999 Jeep Wrangler with a soft top and no back seat. There's no way I'm putting an infant car seat in the back of my Mini on a regular basis. I cart my friends 4 year old around sometimes, but he can get in by himself and buckle himself in if I put his booster seat down for him.

I'm jealous of your new car. I want a Mazda CX-5. The plan is to get it in March.

  • I had a Nissan Rogue that was great for one car seat except it ended up being a lemon :( Turned it in and got a town and country mini van. I love that thing, didn't think I was a mini van person but it's awesome! I'll drive this one until it won't run anymore.
  • We need to get a car. I use to have a 2014 Nissan Versa Note but my grandpa got rid of it due to the payments being too high.

We were going to be a public transportation family but seeing how buses in Phoenix are very unreliable and having no patience to be in this hot heat, we need something lol.

The fun part is sitting down and coming to an agreement on what car we want.

  • I'm actually in the process of getting a Toyota Sequoia this weekend seeing as how my Scion tC won't due for baby #3 ;)
  • Since we lost both our cars in the flood that also wiped out the house, we only bought 1 new car. We had gotten a VW Jett's TDI. It's great and will be fine for 1 LO. BUT...it's the car my hubby drives because his work is about a million miles away and it gets awesome gas mileage (can you say 52mpg)?! I have been driving his grandma's 1999 Neon. No joke. We have been thinking maybe a Mazda 5. It is a microvan. Has a third row you probably wouldn't really use but has the coveted sliding doors. Gets great reviews in Consumer Reports. Anyone have any thoughts?

We currently share a car, but with a baby on the way, we definitely need to purchase a 2nd. We're going to wait until March before we purchase to save as much as we can before the added expense of two cars.
  • @Karrunrun‌ - I know a lot of people with the Mazda 5, and the consensus is that it's great if your family is odd average or below height. It's a bit cramped for tall people like my hubby.

    I think we're buying a Rav4 or a Forester this weekend. :)

  • Ha.. Same here! We really wanted bucket seats and a third row... We just got a Denali three weeks ago and dd loves it almost as much as we do!

  • I'm actually a little bummed about getting rid of my car... it's an old (but newer model... 00') Monte Carlo SS... It's got mom function with teen dreams...  and no AC...a cracked radiator... a cracked windshield thanks to an owl on the interstate... bald tires... 200K miles... and the kicker- after the baby is born, it won't seat the all the kids. If Phil hadn't traded in his truck earlier this year for the trailblazer, we would keep it just because it's paid off and gets good fuel milage. Alas, it's time to go up in size. Probably a Suburban or Tahoe, not sure, but I refuse to ever drive a van (I drove on in highschool for years) so even though I won't have my awesome car (it's a sentimental type of awesome), at least it's not an Aerostar van again. LOL!

Thanks. I'm short and my hubby is only 5-9 or so. I think we would be fine. We still need to test drive it obviously but I think it's a go for us! I'm excited.

I've never heard "boot" before!!! I was thinking boots = tires, like as shoes of the car or something. I was confused  :o)

  • Sorry I just saw this :P I actually thought it was not as bad as people made it sound! DS was a toddler so he got himself in/out and we did the carseat for DD when she was born up until now (she's 5) and it's been fine too. My biggest complaint is the seatbelt started to get locked up when DS pulls it out and the only way to get it unstuck was via opening the hatch and having DH get it. Also, the catseats have to be sat in such a way that the buckets don't block the latch but really, that's it ;)

That is a super cute model...I love seeing them when we visit Portugal and Spain...congratulations!

We got rid of our 2001 Solara DH was driving a few months ago and he took over my 2011 GMC Terrain we got right before our 1st was born because he upgraded me to a 2013 Ford Expedition...now we'll have plenty of room
  • DH went car shopping yesterday, I thought he might buy something used or nothing at all. Then he shows up with a 2014 chevy sonic LS. I love him!
  • We will need a new car.. At the moment my hubby has a ute and I have a Holden Astra convertable, it's only a 2 door and a baby seat won't fit in the back..! At least we have a few months to look for a new car cause we don't know what we want yet
  • Ugh.. jealous! lol but congratulations! I have a 2011 Chrysler 200 and it is tiny. We got it in 2012, months before I got pregnant with DD, and now I wish I could of seen into the future, lol. It's a tight squeeze with her car seat and now I have to fit another one in there!! We're looking to trade it in in a couple of months... or get a second car.

  • Last month I purchased my first ever new car.    A ford escape :)    I love it!  It is easy to get in and out of (which will be great as the belly grows).    It also has 4 wheel drive (or all wheel,  I don't know what the difference is, lol).

We bought it hoping for the best..should fit a car seat and both dogs nicely!

  • DH and I share a 2004 Honda Civic. We've shared since my 2005 Nissan Sentra needed a new clutch that we couldn't afford, so we sold it to a guy at the dealership. It's so great not to worry about a car payment, but this car needs to be replaced.

Next car will be a Honda CR-V or similar. We want more space with a second kid on the way and the Civic will be a tight squeeze with two car seats! We'll probably keep it around till it dies then junk it; trade-in value is too low to bother with. I'm not even sure it's worth $500.

I absolutely love my Rav4. Great in the snow, so easy to drive, roomie but not overwhelmingly huge. And the gas mileage is as good if not better than the hybrid i drove in LA (in Denver now).

We love our escape.   :)       It is small enough that I don't feel like I am hauling a lot of extra vehicle around, but has the utility we need for a growing family.

We test drove the edge too, and I didn't care for it as much.  Not for any particular reason,  but it made the decision easier since the escape was a bit cheaper.   We got the ecoboost engine and 4 wheel drive for when I have to go to work on bad weather days.   Hubby also sprung for leather because it will be easier to clean (I never would have done that on my own).    We have the two package so we can attach a small trailer if we need additional cargo space if we take a trip with baby and dogs :)

With the cost difference between the edge and the escape,  we were able to pay cash for the maintenance plan through 100k,  so there wont' be any financial surprises in terms of maintenance or repairs which is nice with a baby on the way!

My sister has two teenage boys and she has driven the Rav4,  the crv, and whatever the bmw little suv is (bought it used and hated it!).  I felt more comfortable committing to a car payment knowing how happy she has been with hers.

Both are pretty highly rated and reasonably priced!    We thought it over for about a year before finally deciding we had to replace DH's old car, and have had no regrets or concerns with it!
