My biggest fear is locking my kids in the car. To this end, the keys live on the roof of the car from the time the toddler's door opens until both kids are in, buckled, doors shut and I'm ready to get in.
I'd like to hear the entire recording before judging. Our officers do not carry equipment to unlock cars. So our policy is we send an officer and contact a wrecker company for lock out service. The officer stands by with the car waiting in case the child is in distress, in which case they will bust the window. When we explain that to people a lot of times they get ticked off and hang up on us. So I'm wondering what happened with the rest of the recording. If the dispatcher refused to send anyone, then that is an issue, but it's not uncommon for the news to cut out pertinent info in recordings for a "good" news story.

I'm inclined to take the first responders/emergency personnels side 99% of the time, but the fact that the 911 department rep made the statement she made in the video makes me think this was just a bad move on the part of the operator.

Scares me to think my kids could get locked in the car, regardless of how hot it is outside. I started using a lanyard on my set if keys - it stays around my neck until everyone's in the car and were ready to go! Also helps with having 2 free hands!!
