Fitbit users

Hi Ladies!

Any of you guys using a fitbit? I was slacking throughout first trimester, and surprise surprise, I put on 10 pounds.  I've been using the fitbit for a few days now to motivate me to be more active and to track my food (that's my real problem area, I've been ravenous this entire pregnancy!!).  I have it set to second trimester settings, but I really don't think it changes anything!  Do you guys have your goals set to gain weight? like maybe the 1/2 pound a week option? I'm 5 ft tall and weigh a little over 140, so I'm technically a bit overweight so my doc doesn't suggest I try to gain the full 1 pound a week from here on out.  Just curious as to how you other fitbit users have your settings set up! Right now it has me set for about 1800 calories a day with all my steps and exercise added in.  I know to listen to my body and be sure to get enough food for the baby, but I really overdid it first tri and need to get back on track so I don't gain 60 pounds by the end of this!

Thanks!

Re: Fitbit users

  • I had no idea that there were pregnancy and nursing settings. Too cool. I just adjusted mine. Before getting pregnant I was walking 8 miles a day. Now my fitbit data is sad though I am trying to get back to 10,000 steps per day now that my energy is better. I don't track food with fitbit though.

  • I love Fitbit! I haven't really kept up with anything diet related since I got my BFP, but I've been consciously making an effort to be more active. I don't count calories anymore as I'm still dealing with nausea. I just try to eat some fruit, some veggies, and some protein every day.
I think the big thing with pregnancy is to eat healthy and pick a few things that you just will not consume (mine is fast food). Also, it helps if your Dr. isn't afraid to talk to you about food. Mine actually gave me diet restrictions because I had gained quite a bit and I was grateful to her for that.

  • I actually just hit 2nd tri so I'm changing my settings now! I wondered what (if anything?) it changes? I haven't hit 10k very often in the last 12 weeks but it still motivates me to move *more* so I consider it a win. I don't link my MFP anymore either, though I do log food every once in awhile just to see where I'm at. I think though I've definitely increased my intake, I'm within pretty normal limits.

  • I love my fitbit. Although it hasn't been getting a lot of use in the past 12 weeks! I'm finally in the second tri and I'm feeling a lot better so I will be ramping but up my workouts.  I did some yoga yesterday, some wall pushups on break today, and I'm headed to the gym after work with hubby. So exciting to get back into my workout routine.

I did NOT realize that fitbit had a pregnancy settting. So cool.  I think @gator26 has a good idea.  I will set it to 2nd tri and "maintain" weight. B/c right now the weight goal still shows my pre-pregnancy goal... loose 6 lbs. Thanks for pointing this out.

Oh, and I don't use fitbit to track my food.  I used to use myfitnespal but since being pregnant I haven't really tracked calories.  I just track the type of food I'm eating on the ovia pregnancy app (fruits/veggies, dairy, protein, etc.)

  • I wear mu fit it daily but do not use it to track food. First tri was terrible for activity but it is picking up again.

  • I had no idea fitbit had different settings. We get a credit for our insurance for using it, so I haven't fiddled with it that much, but I'm definitely going to check that out.

  • Thanks! I had no idea it had a preggo setting. I don't use mine to track food, just steps and water right now. But I do plan on losing my baby weight using it.
  • Glad to know I'm not the only one who was slacking first trimester! Thanks for the input everyone!
  • I concur- love my fitbit as well!  I try to get to the 10k steps a day and have been doing better in the last month or so.  I'm about to go and walk my dog now and increase my steps :-)

  • I set my weight goal higher and then put my date at the end of this trimester. Ill set it again for the last one. But ive been feeling so sick and tired, my fitbit results have been sad.

  • I was obsessed with my fitbit before I got pregnant, but for the last 14 weeks I have been majorly slacking. I need to get motivated again! I didn't know it has a pregnancy setting; I'll check it out!
  • Where do you change the settings to pregnancy? I was just looking at the app on my phone and didn't see it.

I had to do it on the dashboard on the website.
