Generic name? Opinions please....

My husband and I love this show called' Friday Night Lights' it was on a few years ago. Anyways there's a boy on the show named Landry. When I've told other people my baby name they say it's too generic, that a lot of boys (and girls) have that name now. The problem is I don't have other children in school so I'm not really up to date on common names nowadays. I don't know anyone named Landry, but I just wanted some insight from other women. Thanks ladies.

Oh well there's the proof!
I just had someone tell me their child started school this week and they had 2 kids (one boy and one girl) in their child's class with the name Landry. I don't really care if the name is generic or not, but I went through school with the name Jennifer and there was always 2 or 3 Jennifer's in my class and it could get annoying at times. 764 seems pretty non-generic to me!

It may not be as common as a 80's Jennifer, but it will be timestamped to this decade like Jennifer was to the 80s

Well I misread it as laundry lol still Landry doesn't seem like a name....

Landry was ugly on FNL (at least I thought so).

If you're going to take a name from FNL, go with the smokin hot Tim Riggins.

I have never heard this as a FN. I just think of Tom Landry and would peg you as a Cowboys fan

I think Laundry too, but I don't think it's too popular if that's whats you are worried about. We also got our name from Friday Night Lights…. Lila

Yes we are also Cowboys fans....I had just never heard it as a first name until FNL. I don't think I could name my baby Tim, but yes Riggins is def the hottie of the show! I also love Lila for a girls name. We are re-watching it on Netflix right now....it's even better now than it was a few years ago!

I don't know anyone IRL who has used this name, but I do know of a couple bumpies who have used it on their sons/daughters. Based on this, I consider it to be a very Southern name.

I love Landry! If you think it is generic go into target and say the name out loud and if some kid answers then it is generic.

I knew a Landry once. He stole my camera. Irrelevant, except that it ruined the name for me. Which stinks cuz it is a nice name. He is the only one i have personally ever met. Age, possibly 26-ish?

I loved Friday Night Lights! and I LOVED the character Landry. Sure he wasn't the most attractive guy on the show, but I loved his personality and humor. That being said, I love the name Landry. Love it.

In my real social world and Facebook world, I don't have any friends with children named Landry. I say go for it!

I have a cousin Landry. He's in his mid-twenties. I've never met another one.

I don't know a lot of Landrys and with it being ranked at seven hundred something I don't think you have to worry about time stamped.
Although, you may have to worry about the going to the girls factor seeing as I know more baby girls with this name...Landry Kate.

I have never known anyone named Landry other than the character on FNL (LOVE that show!).  I don't think it sounds generic (not even sure I know what they mean by a generic name...).  I can see how it might be considered trendy though I don't think it is really that popular.  I don't mind it but that could just be because I am a fan of the show.
