New, NTHR or IF related dx

So I've been seeing a gastroenterologist for quite sometime now.  Originally it was for GERD/severe acid reflux sx.  He is also the one who found my focal nodular hyperplasia in my liver.  I've been having a lot of digestive sx for a long time and they have been getting worse over the last 4-5 years or so.  I had an upper GI done in 2012 with biopsies.  It showed nothing, negative for Celiac and other issues.  He's done multiple blood tests on me as well and stool samples to rule out many other things.  Well, I followed up with him yesterday after having a colonoscopy done a couple weeks ago and he said that I have IBS.  Not to be confused with IBD, I did ask specifically about diseases in that category.  So with IBS, he's recommending a FODMAP diet or medication.  I'd like to try the diet first and see if it helps but I'm a very picky eater to begin with so I'm very concerned about not being able to eat anything.

I'm wondering if anyone else here has IBS or other issues that you are managing with a FODMAP diet?  Any advice you have?  Success or failure with it?

We just had a friend have her 4-yr-old diagnosed similarly. She changed her diet and within 1 week she went from constant diarrhea to one solid bm a day and not tummy ache.

Thank you for sharing @2mamazinseattle  I have often wondered why the big hype of gluten free foods but maybe this is really the underlying source of it all.  They ruled out celiac for me a while ago but people kept pushing for gluten free anyways and I just rolled my eyes.  The FODMAP really makes sense though.  I work with a nutritionist that teaches this to patients and almost all have had success with it.  I know it's worth a shot, I'm just concerned about me not being able to eat much since I don't care for many of the "approved" things.  It will be temporary though.  I understand that you follow an elimination diet at first where you eliminate everything and then slowly add things back in to determine what maybe the underlying cause.

I only know about Celiac. It can be so frustrating to have a problem that is difficult to identify. Hope this helps!
