Trouble TTC

Time for another intro!

Hello!

I am a frequent lurker, infrequent poster from TTGP, but have been finding myself spending more and more time lurking over here in the last month, so I thought I would introduce myself. DH and I are both 31 and have been married for just over a year and together for four. To distract myself from obsessively counting cycle days and looking up my new estimated due dates, I spend a lot of time knitting, reading, biking, watching my fish and when that doesn't work I pull out the tequila.

We have been TTC since July 2013 without a hint of a positive test and have started seeking medical help this month. My HSG and CD3 blood work were normal. My ultrasound revealed that I had 45 small follicles (my doctor said that a normal ovary should have around 5-10), so he hinted that I may have PCOS but even if I do this is not causing our issues since I am ovulating each cycle (pinpointed with OPKs and temping). DH had one bad SA and one normal SA, so we have been "diagnosed" with unexplained infertility. I am going to try my first IUI next cycle with 50mg of serophene with an HCG trigger shot. I am pretty excited and nervous about this.

Thanks for giving me a place to feel normal. I don't have many friends who really understand what this is like and look at me like I am crazy for avoiding certain social gatherings with babies when I am having a bad day. I know that the next couple months will probably get more and more intense as the stakes go up and the wallet opens and it's to be around people who understand.

Yes, super frustrating! It's great to know that all tests came back positive, but in some small way it might have been easier to have something be wrong that we could pinpoint and fix. I guess there aren't really small, easily fixable problems with TTC though.

  • Welcome. I am impressed that you have so many calming activities you turn to before busting out the tequila.. but at least you know when to throw in the towel and break out the bottle.

    Good luck!
I have the bottle on hand. Knitting can only do so much. I know someone that has been TTC for almost two years and hasn't had a drop of alcohol because she is worried about it's effect on her potential fetus. I don't know how she has survived this long! I don't think it is my place to give her advice on the subject though.

I think I will cut down on drinking in the TWW during big $$ cycles to come. Maybe not. We will see.

  • Welcome! Hopefully the intermittent "bad" sperm results mean that it may just take a bit longer, but that you'll get KU soon. :)

Your experience sounds similar to me because I also have "string-of-pearls" ovaries and some other PCOS characteristics, but perfectly regular ovulation every month! The RE guessed that my ovulation might not be strong enough as a result (especially because I had a lot of spotting before AF, like over a week sometimes) so he's giving me Femara. The first time I tried, I still had one follie and still O'ed on CD18, so not sure if it's doing anything, but I guess it can't hurt?

I have to ask, are those your little pets in the picture? We had a beloved Chinese hamster when we first married, Pythagoras (nn Gary), whom we still remember very fondly. Your little guys (I'm assuming hamstes) are so cute!

Sorry to disappoint, but it is a random internet picture. It is really cute though. Reminds me of my relationship with DH for some reason. I did have a hamster as a kid named Squishy who I loved and now I share my house with a turtle, fish and a parrot.

I have other symptoms of PCOS as well- long arm arm (thankfully it is blond) and constant struggle with acne. Maybe my ovulation isn't strong enough either- would this mean ovulating immature eggs? Who knows.

  • Welcome! Sorry you have to be here though :( This is a great group because it's hard to find people to talk to who are having trouble conceiving. I'm with @iputketchuponketchup, I'm surprised you don't break out the tequila sooner! That's my go-to as well.
