P17 shots at home

I had my DS at 24 weeks last year due to unexplained Membrane Rupture that led to a Prolapsed Cord and emergency CS. So, I am currently PG 17 weeks and seeing a Perinatologist on top of my regular Obgyn. They have recommended P17 shots starting this week. They said the shots would be sent to my house and I would need to take them to my Obgyn every week to have a nurse inject me or a home healthcare nurse could come out. I jokingly asked if my husband could give me the shot and the doc said sure. I know at 20 weeks I will start having to go to the Perinatologist and reg Obgyn every other week. I know a lot of you ladies have had these shots. Did you take them to the nurse? Has anybody let a family member give them to you?

I had a home health nurse come. It was very convenient, as long as your insurance will cover it. My sister had her husband do them, and he got the hang of it pretty quickly . He can always practice on an orange or something until he feels comfortable injecting you. Best of luck!

My dr won't allow husband to do it . She said I need to come see them, or my school nurse can do it. Since I'm not that comfortable with her, I'm just going to the dr office. Luckily it is a walk in appointment that only takes a few minutes and they are flexible with my schedule

Hi!

Peeking in from Jan15.  I got put on P17 because I delivered at 35 weeks, so they want to reduce the risk of going early again.  My Dr gave the okay for DH to give the shots, and so far, so good.  We did the first shot at the OB's office, with the nurse walking through everything with DH.  Just got the 2nd shot at home this weekend, and I personally thought it hurt less when he gave the shot than when the nurse gave it!  :-)

I have a home health nurse come to do it every week. Check with your insurance, mine paid at 100%.

My DH does them at home for me and if he by chance isn't home yet when I'm ready to go to sleep on shot night (I do mine before bed to avoid side effects) I do them myself.. fertility village has a online video that my DH used to learn how to draw up the meds change the needle head and administer the shots. Its very doable at home :-)

I had DH give them to me at home. We did the first one at the doctor office with a nurse directing him and then he did them all after that. It worked good because my HR doctor office was an hour away and every time I had an appointment with theme it was pretty much a half day I had to take off work.

Thanks ladies! I took your advice and had the first shot at the doc office with a nurse and DH watching to learn how to administer the shot. We are doing our second shot tomorrow at home. He also watched a video online about injecting and changing the needle so I think he is prepared to do them! Thanks again for everyone's feedback!
