Twin girls

This is what we were thinking for our twin girls: Emalie Josephine and Amelia Rose Thoughts?

Re: Twin girls

  • didn't you mean Emily?

Also, they are just too matchy. How would go through the day without getting ridiculously tongue-twisted?

Emily Josephine would be seriously lovely. Just not with Amelia. Amelia Rose is a fine combo on its own though, if a bit overdone.

  • Sorry for the crap spelling of Emily..... DH's grandmother's spelling was Emalie.... I'm not being a "unique freak" ;)

  • WTF is Emalie?  Just spell it Emily, FFS.

On the other hand, Emily and Amelia are way too close...they're kind of the same name.

    1. Spell it Emily

    2. Emily and Amelia are way too similar. Josephine and Amelia would be really nice though.
    Exactly this.

I think I would either put Emalie in the middle name spot or spell it Emily and put in the first name. Personally, I think it honors his grandmother either way. A misspelled name is going to be a huge pain in the ass for her. It might not seem like a big deal to you or your H but you don't have to live with it; she does.

ETA: I really like Amelia Rose and Josephine

  • Hmmm.... Truthfully Josephine Emalie was our first thought. We switched it around because my mother annoyed the holy hell out of me telling me she was going to call the baby "Josie" because she hated the name Josephine. Made me so mad. :p blargh!!

  • I prefer Emily, but Emily and Amelia are way too close.

    Suggestions:

    Claire and Amelia
    Samantha and Amelia
    Natalie and Amelia
    Zoe and Amelia
    Amber and Amelia

  • Emalie is Scrabble gone wrong. On the one hand I'm thinking it's a family name and you want to honour someone important, so you should stick with it, on the other hand.... it's pretty bad. However, since Emily and Amelia are waaaaay to close, I'd stick Emily/Emalie firmly in the mn spot. Josephine and Amelia makes for a lovely sibset and Josie isn't the only nn.

We just named our DD Josephine and we're calling her Joy.  Even being told that, my Dad's first comment was "I'll call her Jo".  I just told him she's Joy to me.  I really can't control others, especially our parents.  I'm hoping that he'll go with the flow since I'm not fighting him, but there's no telling.  Either way, I wasn't going to give him the power to make me change the name we'd chosen.

Excellent point.  MIL calls DD "Livibelle" and I fucking hate it.  I have to look away whenever she says it because it drives me insane.  But it's her nickname for her granddaughter and I have to learn to pick my battles.

Also keep in mind that as your children get older, they might prefer being called Josie or Jo.  You can name them Josephine and introduce them as Josephine and most people won't call them anything but that.

  • We'd call Josephine "Jo" as they that was DH's mom's name. Neither his mother or grandmother is with us anymore. I don't know why his Grandmother's name is spelled "Emalie" I guess there was a fad or something in the 30's. Heh I don't care what my kids want to be called when they are older.... but I can't stand my mother saying the name "Josie", it's not just the name it's how she says it. Horrible!! And she knows how I feel about it and doesn't care.

  • My friends name is Emily and mine is Aimee, we work together and clients can never get our names right, most of the time we are called Amily. I think the names are too similar. Also, spell it Emily... as someone with a "unique" (well up here it isn't because of the French speaking people but still) spelling its more head aches than anything.
  • I really like those names! Very pretty

  • Emalie is pretty much just Amelia jumbled up. Both are nice names, but way too close.

  • Have you considered Amelia and Emilia as your twins names?

Yikes! I got completely distracted by this! ^
...back from checking or who the troll is, and just one comment: my mom always said "tell the full name loudly out your back door ten times before you make your decision." Or in this case say the names together ten times

  • I like the Josephine Emalie/Emily and Amelia Rose idea.

Nicknames dont matter. My sister named her daughter Amelia, her original nickname is Mia. She gets Mia from most people though gma calls her Mimi, and I call her Meemers. Everyones got their own nicknames. My sd is a Josie (not Josephine) and when not going by that she likes Jojo and lovebug for herself
  • Emalie is a family name. Jo was DH's mom's name, we liked Josephine instead. We thought about using another grandmother's name, but didn't really like the three names left (Gertrude, Erma, and Leona). I don't think one child would feel more special having a "family name" while the other doesn't unless you bring it up all the time and make a to-do over it.

  • I love Leona, but if you don't Leonie, Leandra, or Leora might appeal more? I would suggest Leontine, which I also love, but that's more of a guilty pleasure type thing. ;)

Josephine Emalie and Amelia Rose seem fine to me.  Jo or even Joey are cute as nicknames.

How does your mom feel about calling her Jo? Would she use that instead of Josie?

  • She said she likes "Josie" better. I think she is just being a pain in the ass because she really hates the name and is trying to make me not like it either. :p she's not usually a problem.... it's kind of out of character for her.

Is it possible that she's jealous that you are naming her after your DH's mom?  Not that that's okay at all, but if it's out of character maybe there's something going on behind her behavior.  Josephine is beautiful, I hope your mom stops acting this way.

  • Not jealousy, worse than that. She actually said the only racist thing I have ever heard come out of,her mouth when I questioned her about it. She said Josephine was a name for a little black girl and I had no business naming a little white girl that. o.O needless to say I was shocked! My mom has never before said any such kind of thing. Blech!

Awww that's awful : (. It's so hard when a parent says something ignorant and hateful like that.  I guess I would just ignore her then.  I'm sorry you're dealing with such a bad attitude from her.
