So my sugars have been extremely tight and controlled but the last few days I had a couple of highs (140's) and then today I fell asleep after dinner I probably miscalculated my carbs and my blood sugar was 191 YIKES. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm 10 weeks pregant and I'm freaking out that my blood sugar
Was that high ugh!!
Re: Pregnant Diabetic
My endo and OB have said that random highs and lows are going to happen and to not worry too much about them. Now if you're staying high for many, hours/days on end, then it's a problem.
Random spikes happen unfortunately. I just went through two weeks of constantly readjusting my insulin thanks to all the hormones. So long as you aren't staying high for extended periods of time you aren't hurting baby.
Watch for trends of sugars starting to creep up but you should be good for a while yet. It's hard to say when placenta induced insulin resistance will kick in but it is usually closer to the third tri. I know for me I've had some changes in my insulin needs (going up) but my sensitivity had dropped right at the start of my pregnancy and is pretty much back to where it was pre-pregnancy now (I'm 20 weeks).
If you have diabetes,* the best time to control your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is before you get pregnant. High blood glucose levels can be harmful to your baby during the first weeks of pregnancy—even before you know you are pregnant. Blood glucose targets are different for women who are trying to get pregnant. Targets are numbers you aim for.
Pregnancy and new motherhood are times of great excitement and change for any woman. If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes and are hoping to get pregnant soon, you can learn what to do to have a healthy baby. You can also learn how to take care of yourself and your diabetes before, during, and after your pregnancy. If you have diabetes and are already pregnant, don't panic! Just make sure you are doing everything you can to take care of yourself and your diabetes during your pregnancy.
@jdadams0927 My story is amlost exactly the same as yours. Unexpected pregnancy, I actually had my worst A1C of my life going in this. I am now 23 weeks, LO looked great at the a/s, no problems with the heart or signs of any other issues. Yes LO is measuring big, but everything is in porportion so neither my endo or OB are worried. So don't give up hope... I know how much of a toll the constant worry can take on you. Remember you have to give yourself a break once and a while too.
I also managed to drop my A1C from 9.8 to 6.2 in three months. If you ever need to talk feel free to PM me
@mandyreads I know there were a few GD ladies around this board a few months back but I think most of them of them have moved on. As starla said you may want to poll your BMB to see if you can get a check in started there. My BMB doesn't have a GD check in so to speak, we have a high risk check in but if your BMB does't have a check I would suggest you suggest starting one. In the mean time I'm sure any of us T1's or T2's on insulin would be happy to answer what questions we can. I know it's not the same as dealing with GD but on the bright side some of us have a lot of experience with insulin
Edit: because it's Monday and I can't form sentences :S
@Starla487 - I hear you on the CGM alarms. I'm ready to move my high alert up a bit!
