DH just asked me what I thought of Declan. He really likes it. This is the man who never got excited about ANY names AT All. Not even our dds name. He just isn't that into names. However I am not pregnant (although we are ttc) and out of the blue he brings up this name he loves. The problem is I don't like it at all. Any ideas on a name with a similar feel, or good nn for Declan or any reason to make me like it? I would hate to completely write off the only name he ever got excited about. (he has Irish heritage)

Just recently added to my list is Damien! Declan definitely isn't calling my name. Is he pronouncing it DEHK-lan? I looked at it and thought d'CLAN but I'm clueless when it comes to pronounciation.

We're in the same boat except I'm the one who loves Declan and DH hates it. How do you feel about Desmond?

I like Declan. I also like pp's suggestion of Desmond, in fact, Desmond is on my boys list. Try checking into other Irish names, maybe that's his style?

DS is a Declan. If DD had been a boy, she would have been Cormac.

DH and I both really love Declan but it's almost an anagram for our last name so we decided it was out.

All I can think is that you are misspelling Deacon.  Deacon is ok, imo, 
Declan is so nms.

I like Declan. Maybe just don't rule it out and who knows, it might grow on you by the time you are pregnant again.
