ack. help me now. :-S I mentioned a while ago I was going to attempt this and now I have my first pile of diapers. 18 fuzzybunz. whew. tomorrow I'll have 8 new rumparooz with hemp inserts (they each come with two: one big + one small?). all have snaps. all have pockets + inserts. next up will be charlie banana and bum genius. (again snaps and inserts...)
I also mentioned I'm a tight-wad and so far have spent about $10/diaper. (this includes getting a bag, disposable inserts, cloth wipes, and extra elastics etc) Not bad? Too much? All are in good/like new no visible wearing of the fabric. I'll inspect when I get home and assess the elastic. Anything else I should keep my eye out for?
I feel like a crazy person and the weird names and terms are not my forte yet. lol How am I doing so far?
I'll be getting some tide powder at the store on the way home (we use oxyclean). Can I use oxyclean?
What are your opinions on those brands/styles? What is your process? I've got these diaps and I'm guessing I'll need to run them through a rinse cycle to be safe. then air dry them while it's sunny. Then what? do I fold them unsnapped like a pack of disposables? do I lay them in a flat stack? Do I put a new diaper on each change? whats the deal with the covers where you can replace the inserts? How does one do that? I'm going back to youtube because I do NOT want my husband to have any ANY issues with adopting this new cloth diaper thing so I need to make it STUPID CRAZY easy.
lastly, any other late arrivals to the CD world?
Re: CD convert - yikes!
At each change I pull the inserts and toss the insert and diaper into the wet bag and I don't have to worry about it when it comes time to wash. If you do have Velcro ones there is a laundry tab where you hook them so they don't stick to every thing.
We have a front loader and have had no issues getting the diapers clean. We do a prewash and an extra rinse. I dry them all in the dryer and just sun when I need to get stains out. Ecos is the detergent we use for the diapers. I don't really mind stuffing diapers and do it in the evenings while watching tv, then I just fold in half and put away.
Here's my starter pile. Diapers and extra inserts. I'll fill the other three shelves soon. Maybe move some inserts down and put wipes there.
