New to The Bump!

Hi everyone!  I'm new to The Bump (was a Knot member first!)

My husband and I have decided to start trying (I'm 31, certainly not getting any younger!) and I was wondering about a few things.  I know not all women are the same, but I'd love to get some input!

We used an ovulation testing kit and decided to fully give it a "go" last week when I saw that my LH levels were high.  I'm wondering how soon after some of you began TTC you felt anything?  I know some women say they "Just knew it happened!" and I feel like I'm thinking the same way, however, it could also be all in my head since we attempted when the test told us to. How early on (even before you tested) did you feel something, and if you did feel something, what was it?

Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for your response!  I don't plan on testing until I've missed my period (I'm always very regular).  I was wondering more along the lines of what some people may have felt, even before testing.

  • I don't think you understand what I mean LOL.  I'm talking symptoms…. how early they felt symptoms.  I'm 31, I'm well aware you cannot feel sperm hit an egg lol.

  • It's likely you'll feel just the way you do before you get your period.  I'm not quite sure what symptoms you are looking for but with DD I felt crampy like I was going to start my period.  Once my period was like 5 days later than expected I tested and it was positive.  I didn't feel other "symptoms" until about 6- 7 weeks.

With DS I felt nauseous the week before I tested but I was already 7 weeks or so before I tested.  I was still BF DD and hadn't gotten my period back.
  • Thanks for the input!  I'm not really looking for any symptoms in particular, just more of input on what other women felt.  I know the typical ones - tender/sore breasts, nausea, being sleepy, cramp (and the obvious, missed period), just wondering if maybe there were any other people felt.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for your input, ladies.  I know that what I'm feeling now can also be AF on her way since she's suppose to arrive next week.  But I can't help but feel a little excited and hopeful.  Not that I'm necessarily getting my hopes up, just excited that it is a possibility, you know?  If it doesn't happen this time, I won't be devastated since this will only have been the first "official" time we have TTC, the other times we just weren't being careful.  I've just signed up for Fertility Friend, which I saw was a recommendation on some of the other boards.  I was using an app called "My Days" which is helpful in keeping track of when AF is suppose to arrive.  Haven't bought a basal thermometer yet (just found out about those!).

  • Well, as I said before, DH and I decided to actually give it a try and used the Clear Blue OPK.  Took a pregnancy test this morning… POSITIVE!!!!!!  I know it's still early, but I NEED to say it to someone!  DH and I are both saying we definitely want to take another in a few days just to make sure because, well, you never do know.  But I didn't expect it to happen on the first try!!

When you called your OB/Gyn, what did you say?

  • Congrats!  I would think one would just call and make an appointment saying you got a positive result, but I've never had to do that before.....

  • That's what I was thinking as well, but like you, I haven't had to make the call before.  I was trying to do a search on some other forums, and there are very different answers from everyone.  Someone even says her doctor doesn't want to see her until she is 12 weeks in! I feel like you should go BEFORE the end of the first trimester, no?

  • I've always been told you call as soon as you get a positive.  I wouldn't risk waiting.

  • Just call today or tomorrow and say that you just got a positive hpt. They will probably ask the date of your last period and schedule an appointment for 8-10 weeks from now.

Congrats! Head on over to the first tri or your birth month board if you haven't yet!

  • Thanks for the info, I just wasn't sure exactly how to word it.  I figured I'd call and say I took two tests and both were positive, but I didn't know if that sounded strange haha.

I'll have to go over to the birth month board.  May is a perfect month, I'm a teacher ;)
