We are having our 3rd child and we are stuck between two names for a girl. The two middle names are family names that we would like to include. Please give me your opinion. Thanks!

  • I am in the vast minority, but I love the name Paisley.  My vote went for Paisley Ann.

You have a good attitude :) A lot of people don't respond well to being informed that their favorite names fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
We are all entitled to our opinion. At least you made me smile.

I strongly dislike both but I have to say Paisley is slightly less awful than Presley.  It just seems you either LOVE Elvis or Vera Bradley with these names.
LOL. I have had that thought before and I actually like neither, but I do love the names. Funny the one thing holding me back on Paisley is I always think of the pattern when we say it. I do like it though..

Made me laugh too! At least you didn't say they were the most horrible names you ever heard!

I voted paisley because it's less awful lol and Ann because May almost rhymes with paisley.

  • I really can't vote. Paisley and all if it's misspelled variants are one of my least favorite "names" ever, but I can't imagine putting Presley on a sweet little girl. I'm sorry! Nothing personal.

    Are you open to suggestions?

Piper has crossed my mind a few times. My 6 year old daughter is named Mia. :)

  • I dislike both but voted Paisley Ann because I just can't even begin to fathom Presley on a girl. And Paisley May makes me want to say Paisley-Maisley.

Is it my terrible name choices?  ;)

  • I like Paisley Ann best of those, but I also really dig Piper Ann, Talulah May, and Maisy/Maisie Ann.

I'm going to guess it's because you're a level-headed person, which we love to have. You take comments in stride and not personally. Stick around!

  • I think Piper Ann sounds so sweet with Mia. I don't think paisley is awful though. A family friend just had a little girl names Paisley Jean. We all joke that it's so country sounding but it is a cute name I think.

    Suggestions:
    Natalie
    Adelaide
    Stella
    Callie
    Elsie
    Eliana
  • I am not a fan of either name, but think Paisley is head and shoulders about Presley.

For me, Presley = Elvis Presley. Weird association for a baby girl no matter if you are a big fan or not. Paisley is a feminine print and then there is the Brad Paisley country music association. It is not bad. It is cute. Although cute is just not what we are going for on our daughter because she has to grow up and live most of her life not being cute. So just something to think about, if you think the name will suit her well 20 years from now.

I chose Paisley Ann because Paisley May has a repeated y ending that just doesn't work for me. Others you might consider: Margaret with nickname Maisie (love this!), Daisy, or Sadie.

  • Also love the idea of Piper May with Mia. Mia is a sweet name! I also adore the idea of Camille. Mia & Camille work perfectly together and you can call her Millie or Cami. Gorgeous name.

  • Paisley Mae be the next big thing in patterns.

    I crack myself up.

Thanks for letting us play and not getting defensive, OP. Kudos.

  • Both are NMS but I voted for Paisley Ann. Presley is very very bad. I agree you have a great attitude. What about Ivy, Delaney, Clementine, Poppy, Daisy or Veda.

  • I voted for Paisley Ann. Paisley is kind of a GP name for me, but I will probably use it on a future dog. (don't worry, I also take pride in the names I choose for my dogs! our current dog is Josephine Margaret (Josie)  :) )

    Presley is not good.

I'm just here to give another thumbs up to this OP. I like you. :) I may not like Paisley or Presley, but you, I like.

Piper does go well with Mia. I personally really like Willa or Willow with May or Ann as suggested earlier.

    Oh yes, I love Willa.

  • Not a fan of Presley, Paisley, or Piper.

    Suggestions:
    Penelope Ann/Mae
    Penny Mae
    Phoebe Ann/Mae
    Poppy Ann/Mae
    Priscilla Ann/Mae
Started adoption process in Jan. 2011.
    3 failed matches in 2012.
    Surprise pregnancy in Aug. 2012.
Precious baby boy "HC" born May 2013.
    Began researching EA in 2014.
No longer pursuing EA due to fibroid complications.
Officially on the adoption home study wait list.

  • Neither are my style, but if I had to choose I'd go with Paisley Ann. I love May/Mae, but not with Paisley. Pps had some wonderful suggestions. Penelope nn Penny seems to fit your criteria. How about Ruby or Tessa?

  • I voted Paisley Ann but I do not care for Paisley.  But I really dislike Presley.  The association with Elvis is not going to go away.  Every time you introduce her (or she introduces herself) people will say "oh, like Elvis?"

I love PP suggestion of Daisy instead of Paisley.
  • Veto to both first names.

Paisley...like the pattern? How about stripes? Even so, this is the better of the two.

Presley...I don't have a problem with Elvis...I really don't. It's just that this name makes my mind go there so fast and suddenly I'm imagining a smoke filled home with several velvet Elvis wall tapistries....Where the image comes from I don't know.

If you must, I say Paisley.
  • Neither, i refuse to vote for one because the other is worse. I did not vote.
  • Well you all made me laugh :) And I am now seriously reconsidering our name choices. I was really leaning towards Presley but the response I've gotten to that is blowing that right out of the water LOL. I like Harper and Piper a lot. I also like Willow but our last name begins with a W so when you say it together it sounds like a mouthful.  I'm going to see what my husband thinks. Thanks everyone for your honest opinions.

Stripes.. dying  :)) I get it. I liked the sound of Paisley but like I said before I did think of the pattern (which isn't my favorite to begin with). It looks like I'm on the hunt again.

  • I can't vote, they both make me cringe when used on a human female.

  • I'm glad that you are reconsidering. I tried to think of names that I like that end in the -ee sound but all I can come up with is Sadie.

Although, all are not my style, I like Paisley better than Presley and Harper better than Piper. Good luck deciding and thought that I would add, I love Mia!

Then you absolutely cannot use Presley. If you use this name everyone will think you are a super fan so you have to be prepared for that. We have friends who named their son Elvis. They get lots of comments of course, but they embrace it because they are fans. If you aren't even an Elvis Presley fan and you choose Presley for a daughter...?? I don't know it just seems sacrilegious somehow. And you will perplex everyone when they ask, "Oh you must like Elvis, huh?" and you respond, "Nope, we just like the name."

Why invite that much needless small talk into your (and your daughter's) life?

I liked Piper too but my husband just scratched it off the list. He said it made him think of, "Orange is the new black". And now that there is that reference, I think it killed it for me too. I know it's way off my list but we kind of like Lucy. My kids names are Jacob, Mia and I feel like Lucy flows pretty well. We are still looking though. I love Harper but hub hates it. Deciding on a name is so much fun.

  • Lucy Mae is adorable. Lucy is a classic name that will never go out of style. Paisley or Presley seem to be a little trendy, and I agree with others about about Paisley sounding like a fabric pattern and Presley being related to Elvis. In my opinion if the name is attached to some sort of memory or idea that you cant shake, don't be forced to say that name a million times over.
  • Paisley is a pattern, not a name.
  • Piper is good, but I wouldn't do Piper Ann. It reminds me of this cartoon I used to watch called Pepper Ann.

Piper is out. We think of Orange is the new black and it killed the appeal.
