Reed or Reid, and why?

We have settled on Reed for our little man's name...but now hubby is changing his mind on how he wants to spell it. We both initially agreed on Reed, but now DH is saying that he prefers it Reid, while I still prefer Reed.

Which one do you like better for our little man, and more importantly, why???

Re: Reed or Reid, and why?

  • I voted for Reid. I've known one person named Reid and that's how he spelled it, so that just is how I first think of it and so it's the one that looks "right" to me. I would say either is fine though

  • When I see Reed I think of the things in swamps.
  • I knew a Reed in grade school and never thought of reeds from swamps. He was actually pretty hot..

I do like the name, though. Just prefer the other spelling:)

Reid kind of reminds me of Tara Reid...
This! haha. She ruined "Reid" for me I think lol
  • I prefer Reid. I think it looks more a bit more "namey". Reed reminds me of my old clarinet lessons, and while I adore nature names, reeds aren't a plant that I find particularly worthy of naming after.

ETA: I also think choosing the most popular spelling is usually for the best. Reed isn't uncommon enough that it would cause a ton of problems, but I still think it's a bit easier to just go with what's more commonly used. (the exception being Zoey. I will never, ever support Zoey.)

    Exactly.
(And isn't Zoe more commonly used than Zoey?)

  • Hm....I guess I never thought about the whole plant/swamp thing lol. Today there are so many names that are actual things or places: Brooklyn, Gage, Jade, River, Daisy, Lily etc. that I didn't think it was weird to have the name of a plant (not that we are naming him after the Reed plant lol!!)

  • I prefer Reid to the double e, just because of how it looks.

  • Either way is fine imo. I gave Reid a slight edge because I like the ei a touch better than the double e. If you like the Reed spelling though I say go for it, they both look nice.

  • To me, Reid looks more like a name. I know a baby Reed, and I'm sure he'll do just fine in life with his name spelled that way, but it reminds me of a reed for a clarinet or saxophone.

LOL. I'm sure he will do just fine in life...that made me.laugh haha. I guess I'm glad that I have zero experiences with instruments...I would never think of reed as musical instrument!
  • Reid is a name.

Reed is a thing that grows in a swamp.
    This for me too

  • I think Reid looks so much better! Also agree with Reid is a name, reed is a plant.
