Success after IF

Potty question

So LO has started to indicate when he is peeing or pooping in his diaper and so I am just starting to look at toilet training items. Any thoughts or suggestions about having a potty vs. a small soft seat that attaches to the toilet? TIA

I didn't want to clean poop out of a small toilet so we avoided that one. I think its just important to wait till your child shows interest in it. My DS isn't fully potty trained right now but he just recently started showing interest, he just turned 3.

Of my friends that have been successful with potty training it seems like their kids took the lead and the parents just supported them and gave them the tools to be successful. Good luck!

I'm kinda wondering the same thing, my mom who has been watching my LO during the day lately has said that he is indicating that to her as well. I was thinking that I mostly didn't want to deal with cleaning poop out of a little potty too, so I was planning for now on getting a little seat for our toilet.

A friend of mine recently did the potty training thing with her daughter and they only had a bathroom upstairs or downstairs - not on the main floor - where the spend most of their time, she initially didn't want to have a stand-alone potty but with the situation of not being able to get right into a bathroom made it tricky so they ended up with a stand alone and potty training went great for her that way. So you kind of need to think about easy access for the kiddo too.

We have a potty that has steps and attaches to the toilet. LO loves it. We also have a small cheap one from walmart that is a traditional type it's great to take places as it's light and easy.

We have so many darn potties.

We started training on the little ones on the ground, so that we could move it from room to room as he played. That's mostly because at first he couldn't recognize the sensation of being "about to go" so we only had a few seconds to swoop him on to the pot. Now that he can hold his pee/poop and he tells us when he needs to go, we just use that little potty in the back of our minivan for when we are out and there aren't public restrooms close by.

We have a soft potty seat that sits on the normal toilet seat also- we use that most of the time at home. That's definitely his preferred seat. We put some truck stickers on it, which he's into.

We also have a travel seat that folds up. We keep that in his diaper bag in a gallon baggie and put that on public toilet seats and he uses it at preschool.

We have done the little potties on each floor so it's easy to get to. It's also easier for us to throw in the truck when we go somewhere to sit him down and then go about our business. But he prefers the big potty because daycare does the big potty so half the time he is on the little seat to go. Travel potty is awesome because you won't have to worry about sloshing pee you can just throw the insert away. Good luck!
