night light?

Sophia just started wanting her door open when she goes to bed. I usually wait for her to doze off before shutting it. She has a dream light and a heartbeat sound maker that shut off after 15 minutes or so. Problem is, we have a small, two bedroom bungalow and DH gets up to get ready or work at 2 am. Door open is really not an option. Plus, on weekends I sometimes get some time to myself before she gets up and her room is just off the living room. The only thing I was thinking might help is putting a night light in her room so it's never completely dark. Any other ideas?

Re: night light?

  • Maybe a flashlight stuffed animal she can turn on if she gets scared? Em has a penguin one she likes but we bedshare so it's not used for the same reason, for her it's just fun.
  • Our baby monitor has a built in night light, so we kept it in her room even though we don't use the monitor anymore. It's a dull green light that she seems to find comforting. It's a push light so I don't turn it on for her, she turns it on when she wants. She tends to turn it on when we're done reading our bedtime story.

  • We keep the door shut only until we go to bed, then we open it. DD has a glow worm in her crib with her and a nightlight by the door.
  • We don't close bed room doors but the boys share a room with a night light plus Nathan has a turtle that put stars on the cieling and Lucas has a glow pillow pet.

  • We have this odd outlet near the ceiling because the previous owners had installed a tv in that room so we have a nightlight in that outlet.  DS also has a twilight turtle and a starfish projector but he doesn't tend to play with those at night, only during the day.  We need a nightlight for me, so I can see him if he needs something, but we bedshare, either me and lo or dh and lo, we rotate.
  • We have glow in the dark stars on the ceiling.  They only glow for a little while and she is usually asleep before they dim.
