Snap conversion

I started converting my BG aplix to snaps with DD then abandoned it when DD potty trained.  I want to finish now that DD2 is here but I'm clearly doing something wrong.  When I set the snaps the pliers is smooshing the post to the side instead of straight down so the snap doesn't close well and in some cases not at all.  Anyone have any experience converting their diapers?  Any tips to get a better set?  This is only a problem with the female side.

I just make sure the snap is centered in the pliers first.

When I push down I make sure to apply a good amount of pressure.

Don't go back and push down a second time.  This is usually when I had issues.

You are probably pushing too hard. I have that happen occasionally if I'm not paying attention. I center the cap in the pliers, then hold the socket down flat on either side with both my index and thumb finger to prevent it from shifting during pressing.

Thanks for the thoughts.  Not looking forward to prying off the duds.
