High BP

My blood pressure has always been in the normal to low range even during pregnancy. It was slightly elevated at my initial post partum visit back in May and my doctors office wanted me to come in every so often to have it checked. It has remained on the higher end of normal until this week when it sky rocketed. I now have to go on meds. Anyone else having this issue?

Re: High BP

  • They said it has something to do with blood vessels contracting and your body getting back to where it was before pregnancy.

I had a similar thing happen. They delayed my discharge from the hospital because on day 4 postpartum my BP was 155/99. It was always in the normal range before and during pregnancy.

I didn't know before that, but some people don't develop preeclampsia until AFTER delivery.

My BP has gotten much lower since then, but is still higher than it ever was before. Last week it was 127/89. It's not high enough to take meds for it, I'm just supposed to get it monitored occasionally. Hopefully it returns to normal, but I know now some people end up with hypertension after they have a kid. It's a total bummer.
