Furniture delivery...to driveway? (Rant)

I received 2 gliders from babies r us today. They delivered either to the driveway or garage. If I wanted to move it myself I would have had them ship to the store and not paid for shipping. All of our other furniture came from furniture row. They delivered everything and set it up.

I am not impressed given that this is from a specialty store. Anyway, something to consider for those that may not be done with their nursery shopping.

  • Had the same thing happen from a $3500 leather couch. Beyond irritated!

  • That sucks :(

I didn't even know BRU delivered, I've only had to order things from the online shop or pick them up from the store myself.

Were the gliders already assembled? Everything I've ever ordered from BRU has been unassembled and I've set it up.

  • Always read the fine print!
BRU says oversized items are delivered by ground freight and they are not responsible for unloading it from the truck or bringing it inside.

So score one for you that they even left it at the driveway!

  • Yea, BRU doesn't provide a set it up for you service. It was just shipped to your house by FedEx or UPS, not by BRU staff.

  • I'm dealing with BRU right now. They do not use UPS or FedEx. It's an outside company that delivers for them at a price to you. My husband picked up our 3 pieces with his own truck, and our long dresser was completely cracked, brackets missing, and the drawers that are supposed to be both dovetailed in construction and have the "slam proof" feature were also not there. Complete crap for a $700 dresser. We've demanded that they deliver a new one and pick up the old one free of charge, and they surprisingly agreed.
  • My last pregnancy we ordered a crib from BRU (although it was FedEx who delivered it).  It was an icy, snowy day and the delivery man rang my doorbell and asked me (about 8 months and visibly pregnant at the time) to come out and help him so he didn't slip.  When I refused, he slid it on the ice and proceeded to sandwich me in between the door and the wall of my then apartment.  I could hardly move! My husband was livid and called all over the place, but nothing was resolved.  So annoying

  • I had just posted about this the other day. BRU wont let us pick up the dresser in store but wants $125 to have it delivered thru ??? shipping. I won't be getting the furniture there or registering there now. Their loss.

  • Based on liability that they have with the delivery company- this is why they don't deliver inside. When I ship stuff especially to expecting moms, I always tell them to arrange for delivery. I'm sorry this happened.
  • So obnoxious. Sounds like you won't be in this position again, but if you are sometimes (probably not all the time) cash will make a difference - I will give delivery guys an extra $20-$40 cash tip to carry stuff where I want it, depending on the size. Of the furniture. And the delivery guy... So far no one's turned me down. Eta I didn't mean that to sound dirty, but it sorta does! ; )

:D Good point, I would normally just pay for it but I thought that I already had.  Who knew that the actual delivery part was extra.
  • I had this with an £1000 oak dresser and hatch. They were so heavy and after paying for a two guy delivery they just dumped it all boxed etc.
I asked them if they would install the set (the hutch unit had to be placed on top of the sideboard unit to complete the dinning room dresser) but they said they were not allowed to do that and pissed off. I had to take them out of the boxes and packaging myself and then there was a problem with the bottom part and all the joints were muffed up and it had to go back :(

Eventually we got a replacement after much faffing and reporting item as bad craftsmanship. Would not order from them again.

It sat for weeks in two pieces until I could find another male to lift the top piece. Assholes. You expect better when spending a lot of money and for solid wooden items.
