3-Month Growth Spurt, Bye-Bye Sleep

Anyone else have an LO going through a 3-month growth spurt. We're going on a full week of it, and my typically great sleeper is not so great anymore. We were very lucky: starting around two months he would sleep 6-7 hours straight, and usually only wake twice at most to feed. But since the spurt started he's been waking 4-5 times at night. And he's fighting naps all day.

What's your experience like with the spurt? Anyone finished with it? How long did it take?

Re: 3-Month Growth Spurt, Bye-Bye Sleep

  • We just came out of it. It lasted a week and the lack of sleep was rough but now that it's over, LO is sleeping better at night than she did before it started. There's hope! Our LO isn't into the daytime naps either. We wait until she's definitely tired to try to put her down and even then, it can sometimes take 40 mins to get her down for a nap that lasts 20 mins. I'm ok with it if she's sleeping so well at night, though!

  • We are going through this now. She used to sleep 5-6 hours then wake up once to eat. For the past few days she's been waking what seems like every hour at night to eat. She's 3 months today!
  • We are going through this right now. DS had been sleeping 7-9 hours and then the night before last he woke up at 3:30 to eat and last night he woke up at 4:30 but was able to soothe himself back to sleep. He's also been a lot fussier than usual while eating. As for naps, he's been a crap napper since starting DC so it's hard to tell.

  • Yikes! Just realized we may be in the beginning stages of this; DS is 12 weeks old tomorrow. He's been waking up more at night and having a hard time with naps. I thought it was because I was cutting back on the sleep aides. Double Crap! Is there anything we can do???? Or just wait it out?

  • Mine just turned 3 months yesterday.  She was sleeping from 8pm-6am for 2 weeks.  I do not know what happened last night but it was BAD.  Scream, scream, scream!

  • My little guy will be 3mths on the 30th and I think he's already going through the growth spurt. He isn't napping well and is getting up twice a night(exactly 2:30 and 4) and isn't going back into a deep sleep after 4.
I think he is already starting the teething process, too. He is really young, but he constantly has his hands in his mouth, is chewing on the bottle nipple and drooling.

Hope he gets back on his schedule!
  • Yep. She's never slept for longer than four hours at a time but this past week she's been up every hour wanting to eat and not napping like usual. Woo.
  • So happy to read this! I was wondering what happened to my good sleeper.
  • We are 12 weeks today and I think this started 2 nights ago for us. LO was sleeping 7+ hours at night, but now she has been wanting to nurse at 2 or 3 am. I'm also having more trouble getting her to nap, ugh.

One of the advantages of having a baby born later in the month is that you all figure this stuff out for me in advance.  :)    We're 12 weeks today and the past couple of days, naps have been short and he regressed back to several MOTN feedings each night.   Good to know that he'll work himself out of this and then I'll be on the lookout for the 4 month wakefulness I guess.   Good luck everyone!

  • We are going through it now, too. So glad to know we are not alone. The first night I was totally confused and then I started thinking maybe it was a growth spurt and my suspicions are pretty much confirmed now!

  • Ds is sleeping. But getting him down has been more tricky. He used to eat and pass out. Now he wakes and cries about 3 times before being really asleep. Then he will wake around 5 or so and be unsettled until about 830-9. My guess was and still is something is bugging him.

He is moving his bed time up earlier which is nice though.

We're going on about 3 weeks of this. It's peaked this week with it being every night.
