Elodie or Elsa?

Hello All,

We have/had pretty much decided on Elodie Rose for our second daughter due in October. However, my family dislikes it, and I know I shouldn't care, but I do. What about the name Elsa? The fact that it is spiking in popularity due to Frozen is a big turn-off, but we still love the name. Also, we don't know a middle name for it if we were to choose it. Which name is better?

I prefer Elsa personally but you should use what you love and not worry about your family.

Elodie is beautiful, I can't understand why your family wouldnt like it. I would not want to do Elsa after frozen. What about Elsie?

I like both but I give the edge to Elsa. However, once your adorable baby girl is here, nobody is going to look at her cute little baby cheeks and say, "She sure has a dumb name." They'll be over it in two seconds. Name her what you love!

Would you consider Elisabeth and calling her Elsa? Then you also have all sorts of nicknames - Elle, Ellie, Elise, Eliza, Beth, Betsy, etc.

Would you consider Isla instead of Elsa? Pronounced eye-luh like Island. I think it is very similar but not tied to Frozen.

If neither of those work for you, I would still just go with Elsa. I can't say Elodie without feeling like I am just saying Melody wrong. But that is probably just me. Elsa is a lovely name and not very popular. Some will ask if you named her that from Frozen, but 10 years from now no one will care. It would be like meeting and Andy today and asking "Like toy story?" Also, Elsa in Frozen is not at all a bad association so I don't think it matters anyways. It's a great name!

For middle names - try to find something with personal meaning to you not just a filler that sounds nice. Right off my head Elsa Marie sounds pretty but I don't know your last name so it's hard to say!

Oh I'm sorry I didn't see that you were pretty much decided on Elodie. Preggo brain, excuse me! Elodie Rose is lovely. Your family can call her Ellie or Rosie if they don't like Elodie but it is not like a weird name or something so they will come around I am sure.

You can't please everyone. Most of the time someone who doesn't like your name choice will name their kids things you don't like. We all have different tastes. This is why we are team green and not sharing any names until baby is born, healthy, and named.

I prefer Elsa to Elodie- Elodie to me seems unfinished. But that is probably because I have a family member named Melodie (exact spelling) so it just looks weird to me.

I LOVE Elodie! Gorgeous name. I am not a huge fan of Elsa, but it's a fine name. Your family will just have to deal with whatever name you chose.

I get it's hard when you have a name you love and your family very vocally disagrees.  Most of my family were not keen of DS's name (my brother liked it) but overall negative feedback.  We didn't commit to the name till after DS was born but it fits him perfectly and it's hard to even remember people didn't like it.  

FWIW, I prefer Elsa but both names are lovely.

I have friends named each of those and I think they are unique and gorgeous names! and Eloise kind of combines Elsa and Elodie?

Both are lovely. I feel like I am leaning more towards Elodie Rose though.

This is the exact reason I will not be sharing future baby names with anyone, maybe at all. My own mom disliked our name we chose for DD but after months of getting funky looks from various members of our family for names we had tossed around when we finally agreed on our name no one else mattered. Your baby, your choice, they will learn to love it. Mine did anyway.
