Scheduling job interviews

I have posted many times about my job saga so most of you probably know the back story. I have been given until the end of October at my current job so I need to find something else. I applied for another position really close to home and they emailed me today to request an interview. The problem is they want me to come in Monday, which is really not a good time to take off work. It is a busy week at work and it is also my son's first week back at school and my DD's 4-month appt so I already am cutting into my works hours with all if that going on. But I don't want to tell this employer I can't come in at all next week so my dilemma is, when offered an interview do you accommodate the prospective employer's schedule at the risk of pissing of your current one or do you make sure the interview does not interfere with your current work schedule? Remember I am definitely losing my current job and not getting any severance. So WDYD?

  • Definitely go to the interview. Your current job is not going to fire you now when they know you're leaving in October. Good luck!
  • Seriously, GO. If I remember correctly, your current employer was kind of jerky. Ok, really jerky. To quote Bobby Bowden on leaving a coaching job, you don't owe nobody nothin'.
  • Ok thanks everyone. I was feeling a bit guilty but you are right - they are jerky and have put me in this situation.

@ClaryPax - I really didn't want to do the well visit next week but it was all I could get with DD's Ped. We can't push it out too far because of the vaccinations.

  • Definitely go. You already know your job is ending, I'd be more concerned with making it work for the new employer.

  • Go.   At this point, you can't pass on any opportunities since you'll be jobless in a couple of months.  They'll get over it and figure out how to get through the day with out you - good practice for them come October!!

  • Your current employer has to know you're looking. Go.

  • Go.  Not to be harsh, but screw your current job for the few hours it will take for the interview (or for the day with everything else you have going on).  What are they going to do?  Fire you?  I understand you want to do well at your job even though you're leaving, but believe me, they are only concerned with the work and not with your next job.  You need to take care of YOU and your family.
