Does anyone remember...

How long it took you to recover fully from tearing after birth? I sustained a second degree tear, and yesterday was the first day I was able to manage with zero pain meds. I am trying to figure out when I will feel well enough to ride my horse (who cares about sex anyways....?)

Re: Does anyone remember...

  • I think it took me a good 3-4 weeks to be back at 100%. I also had second degree tearing.

The bruised tailbone on the other hand...easily two months. Hoping to avoid that this time around.

  • I also had a second degree tear, and a labial tear. I can't remember exactly how long it took to recover, but I'm sure it was at least 2-3 weeks (probably closer to 3). That numbing spray they gave me to use after I peed was helpful.

  • I had a first degree tear and felt fine, but sex really hurt for about 3 months.
  • I would be extra careful about your stitches. Horseback is a very unique situation. I would especially worry about swinging your leg getting on and off. I'm thinking in my head that would be the worst

  • I had a 2nd degree tear. It probably took about 2 weeks for me to pee without the peri bottle and 3 months for sex to feel kinda good. (Still had minimal discomfort).

  • Thanks ladies. I am planning on waiting until maybe mid September to try, but it still worries me to try.... Ya know what I'm saying?

  • Same here and I remember feeling okay and stopped the meds but then the pain came back!

  • I would definitely take it easy with riding. Lunging is your friend :) I agree that you should talk to your  OB at you 6 week appt and see what s/he says.

  • My OB appointment won't be until October 10th, which is 8 weeks PP. Luckily, my stitches are already dissolved. I don't think I will bother trying to get on her for at least another month, but if I wait until I see my OB, the opportunities to actually ride before the snow falls will be very minimal. I haven't ridden since last fall and we have some riding events coming up that I would like to attend. @kelly321 loungeing is a great idea. I hadn't thought of that. She can be a bit fresh those first few rides, so I should work it out of her before attempting to ride. Or at least avoid trails for a wee bit.

Why is it that I've never known the severity of my tears??
This. Do they only tell you when it's bad? I know I had stitches but didn't ask a damn thing else about it.
Haha, same!  I'm always wondering how people know this!

  • I had a second degree tear. I honestly can't remember when I was finally pain free. Probably like two to three weeks? I remember lots of pain meds and that little squirt bottle for peeing ;)

And milk of magnesia because I was terrified to have a real poop.

"Ow I can feel you sewing me up!"
Ugh my epidural wore off half way through pushing and I could totally feel everything when they were sewing me up. Honestly the after birth was the worst part. Like felt like I was in some civil war movie and having an arm amputated.

  • I keep forgetting what this thread is about and reopening it.

All the newborn talk in the world will not deter me from wanting another, but this? This just might.
