At my last appointment it took more than 5 minutes for my midwife to find the heartbeat. She was about ready to pull in the table side u/s machine when she was able to find it long enough to log it.

I would definitely have them let you come back in.

@nohalo21 please update us! I've been thinking about you all day. I hate that your doctor didn't reassure you while you were there. Since its happened to me I understand its scary but it is pretty normal this early along.  Let us know if you got an appointment or not when you get a chance. :-)

I still haven't heard the HB on a doppler( which is cause they haven't used one on me yet) I had an ultrasound at 8w which was order by my GP and i saw it. I had another one at 13 weeks cause my OB wanted me to do the NT scan. I heard the HB on that one. I love the idea that you can have a US at the OB's office, that would be so cool, and re-assuring if there was a problem. We don't have anything like that here, we either have to go to US centre or the hospital. I'm keeping me thoughts with you that everything is okay!

I have to disagree with most of the previous posters. It isn't uncommon for a healthcare professional to fail to find a heartbeat at 13Wks with a Doppler. It can happen because of a slew of reasons!

Now, that your healthcare provider didn't explain this to you, has me concerned. But, no, not finding a heartbeat with a Doppler at 13wks isn't necessarily anything to worry about.

They couldn't find my LO's heartbeat at 13 weeks, either. But I was educated about all of the reasons that it might be difficult to find, so while I was disappointed, I wasn't worried enough to demand another appointment.

You ought to do what you need to do to feel alright and I'm not trying to judge, just to be the dissenting voice that says you really don't HAVE to worry.

Now, all that said, if your pregnancy is high risk that might be a different story, and might cause additional worry.

Yay! So glad everything is okay. Even if it's not normal to find the heartbeat, it would be nice for the office to try and offer some sort of reassurance...it kind of sounds like they didn't really care, and that would bother me.

I'm so glad that the baby is ok! I cannot believe the office, though. I'm sorry they were so difficult to work with.

So glad everything turned out okay, although I agree that your OB needs a serious talking to. That's absolutely ridiculous. It really sucks that it's the only OB office near you, because I would've already switched. I guess when you have a complete monopoly, you can afford to act like dismissive assholes.
