Still trying to find the magic combo

Is anyone else still not feeling like they know what their LO likes? LO is 6wks old & having a lot of gas (thinking about trying another formula) & possible reflux (just started meds yesterday) so he's pretty uncomfortable and I just don't feel like I'm doing it right as far as soothing him & helping him relax. Even when he's not uncomfortable, A regular bedtime is still hard for us...As in a 2hr process of me rocking him until I think he's asleep, him waking up screaming as soon as I put him down, and me trying to hold him just right & find the right combo to calm him down again.  

Maybe it took this long with DS#1 and I just don't remember, but I knew exactly how to hold him that he liked & as soon as he got his binkie he was totally content. None of my holds or snuggles or binkies make LO happy. I've even thought maybe he isn't a snuggler & tried laying him down when he's upset, but that didn't do it either. 

Feeling totally disconnected (although he did smile at me today!).

My LO will be three weeks on Friday so I'm behind you on this journey but I feel the same way. She was great the first two weeks and now she is so fussy-it takes two hours in the middle of the night to get her to settle down. I don't know if it's gas, reflux, a growth spurt or what! I have a plethora of swaddles/sleep sacks and pacifiers. What works one time doesn't work the next. She is such a sweet baby I just wish I knew what was upsetting her. This one is much more predictable than DS, but things change regularly. When they're less than 3-4 months old, they don't really adhere to a natural schedule. A lot of nb fussiness comes from an immature digestive tract, too. I try to get DD down at night before her fussy spells begin. Evening fussiness is often because they are tired and over stimulated from the day.
