Not really baby related but kinda: Roomba and Neato users come on in!

Do you have a Roomba and/or Neato? Do you love it? Hate it? Are indifferent about it?

I have two gross kids and a dog who sheds enough fur every week to make a sweater.  I have mostly hardwood an tile floors, with some Pergo thrown in for good measure.  I dry swiffer every third day and vacuum once a week, but the floors are constantly covered in little bits of who knows what and dust and lint and definitely dog hair.  I'm thinking of buying a Roomba or Neato. I used to have a Roomba, many years ago, but it was a piece of shit and did absolutely nothing, and died quickly. I'm told the technology has improved.

So tell me a love story. Even if it's a love story with a scary ending.

  • Love my Roomba. We have 2 dogs and we run it as we walk out the door in the morning.

You just need to be sure you pick everything up off the floor (added bonus, really) because it will suck up phone charger cords and try to climb on top of some toys (like 1-2 in off the floor).

It is also crazy loud, so I don't ever run it if I'm home and the dogs hate it, but o well.

Hmm...what else? the filter bucket thingy is super easy to empty. I find it does better on hardwood than tile or carpet, but we don't have proper carpets (we have rugs) and our tile has deep grout.

  • If you have mostly wood you might want to look into a Mint. We just got one last week and it is basically a roomba that swiffers. You can use microfiber cloth or swiffers it also mops. So far I really like Mint it doesn't vacuum so I can run it whenever quietly. The amount of dirt and hair it picks up is impressive and it is cheaper. The only drawbacks are the battery and that it doesn't go "home" it just dies in the middle of the room. Edit. We have two dogs so lots of hair/ dirt.

I was doing some research on the mint, but one of my family members has one and she says it just pushes the dirt around but doesn't pick it up.

I'm not worried about noise because I think I'll just run it when we are out.

  • I had a Roomba and I loved it, I was really surprised by how much it picked up even after I had already swept/swifter etc. The only problem I had with it was that it's front sensor, which is supposed to keep it from falling down stairs, was really sensitive and had a hard time with any dark colored rugs or carpets so it would get stuck in a certain room a lot. It didn't matter that much because I just stopped using it in there but it took some googling to figure out what the problem was. Also my kid was obsessed with it, I'm pretty sure he learned how to crawl just so he could follow it around the apartment.
