Ice Bucket Challenges

Have you all been seeing the ice bucket challenges going around to raise awareness and money for ALS? I really love watching them, they are too funny. I have a couple favorites, but I have to say Dave Grohl's video where he made it Carrie themed tops them all so far! Nothing like seeing Dave Grohl ugly cry to make you laugh out loud.

I was nominated yesterday to do it, time to get the ice water ready!

It was started in Boston by Pete Frates, he was a BC baseball star, is only 29, and his wife is pregnant. It's pretty sad. People have totally tweeked the challenge though. If you are nominated you are supposed to do it within 24 hours and donate $10, if you don't do it then you are supposed to donate $100. Simple as that. Such a horrible disease. https://petefrates.com

  • It's all over my newsfeed. I think it's a great idea, but I feel like some people are doing it because its "the cool thing to do" but have no idea what ALS actually is.

DH was nominated so I'm sure ill be nominated soon.

  • We just did it tonight.  I had mixed feelings about it because my dad died of ALS in 2005, but I'm so overwhelmed and overjoyed by the money and awareness it's raised, that I've been converted :)  And honestly, my dad would have loved it and not hesitated to do it himself.

It actually didn't start with Pete Frates - he was just the first to request people to donate to ALS and then it took off. I actually thought it was pretty stupid when I saw Matt Lauer do it on the Today Show after he was nominated by a golfer. At that point people just had to donate to any charity, if they refused the challenge. But, since it was a game amongst people who were well to do - they seemed to be doing it and donating money to charities.
Actually Matt Lauer's ice bucket thing predates the whole ALS thing, and had nothing to do with ALS, that's why they were just donating to charities of their choice. People misconstrued it and assume it's related to ALS but it's actually not.
