Have you done this?

I have the annoying nauseous 24/7 MS type symptoms but I'm always hungry! I barley have an appetite and it takes me forever to eat things. Defiantly not too much protein either. I think I'm staying so hungry though because of the lack of protein. Has anyone done protein shakes or meal replacement shakes at all? Is this even ok? I just want a healthy baby and thing hunger to subside a little! The saltines are clearly just not enough for this little peanut! Hope this question isn't ridiculous :/

Re: Have you done this?

  • Totally not a ridiculous question!

I have a whey protein shake (vanilla, with skim milk) first thing, and it helps tremendously with the nausea/shaky feeling that I get when I first wake up. After that, I snack every couple of hours with small meals in between. I've also added peach juice and raspberries to my whey shake and it was yum! I've found that this has kept the nausea mostly at bay - but if I wait to eat or snack, I'm pretty sure that I'd be barfing.

  • I do fruit smoothies with a scoop of protein sometimes for breakfast.

But I am hungry all the time!!
  • Check out https://mommi.com, I got a sample pack in one of the pregnancy subscription boxes that I get and it's pretty good. I put fruit and vanilla almond milk in it. It is a protein shake alternative for prenatal vitamins. Hope this helps!
  • Ladies thank you!! Great ideas esp as I'm waking up now haven't even gotten up and already have an awful stomach ache! Hoping for a better MS day though :/
  • I have the same or similar problem. I can eat any type of meat with out getting sick. I eat a lot of cheese and wheat crackers, yogurt, oatmeal. I like the quest protein bars cause the are low carb high protein and high in fiber. I to just want my baby to be healthy but it's hard when you can eat anything. I've actually lost a couple of pounds since finding out I'm pregnant
  • This thread is helpful. I was thinking of posting myself about something similar, since my diet has gone to shit due to morning sickness. I can only handle bland foods which tend to be unhealthier- like mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, etc. I normally really enjoy leafy greens but now they basically taste like dirt. Fruit in normal form is a no go now, too.

I need to get real nutrients in me STAT so I may attempt smoothies, if I can handle the texture. Do any of you second+ moms have advice about what else to eat? Or even whether or not I should literally force myself to eat something like a rich salad no matter the gag factor?
  • I had a normal lunch today ladies (thank you zofran) & was so hungry again right after and then did a really healthy protein smoothie to hold me over until my blan pasta dinner I'm making now! It worked wonders- had bananas almond milk pbutter & more! I was able to take the texture! Yay! Happy to find the zofran working well after starting it this morning! My official lifesaver
