Milk

We haven't had DD's 2-year appt. yet, but I believe this is when we're supposed to switch from whole milk to 2% - is that right?  What have your pediatricians advised?  Thanks.

Re: Milk

  • Our doctor didn't mention a switch. I didn't know I was supposed to swap her already.

I'll watch to see what others say.

  • Yep, we were told we could switch to 2% and have been doing that for the past couple of weeks now without any problem!

  • Our pediatrician said we could switch. But we won't, we're a whole milk household.

  • we just had our 2-year yesterday. our pedi didn't mention it specifically, but it was on the 2 year appointment info sheet that they gave us.

we're going to leave DS on organic WCM for now. he doesn't drink all that much milk since he is still BFing. i think part of the concern is that they'll fill up on the whole milk and not want to eat other foods, but that's not an issue for us. (we generally eat full-fat dairy anyway, except DH and i use 2% milk).

We also use full fat dairy normally, so it's good to hear that others are ok with leaving milk full fat past age 2.

  • We haven't had the 2 year visit yet, but I plan on sticking with whole milk until at least the age of 3.

  • Our ped said that we could switch if we wanted to, but it wasn't a big deal either way - she was more concerned with how much milk we give DD than the % as a measure of ensuring that DD was getting her calories from a variety of food sources and not just cows milk. We did switch a couple of months ago though since it was annoying to buy two different milks (DH and I drink 2%).
  • Our pedi didn't mention it, and I don't intend to switch just yet.

  • We switched to 2% already. DD doesn't seem to have noticed or care!
