  • Just curious, it sounds like they don't do a live (TV screen that you can look at during the ultrasound) ultrasound with either the RE or physician assistant? Every time I go in the RE or PA shows me my follicles and measures them on the spot so I know exactly what is going on in my ovaries at all my visits.

Also, I don't know if my RE is just crazy, but I have never been told to sit out a cycle due to multiple follicles and I average 3-4 on clomid. I would seek a third opinion as well. I would request more information from the doctor specifically asking why he wants you to sit this one out. I know I would not listen to my RE without clear explanation of what my ultrasounds/blood work meant

    Good luck!

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL

FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM

JANUARY SIGGY CHALLENGE...This is so me!

  • If it's not too late to have sex this cycle I would go for it YAY! :) I had four follicles and 120 million sperm and a BFN so I'm all about doing it with multiple follicles.

  • Did someone say alcohol????

I'm sorry OP I have no advise about clomid but welcome.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • @apresmoi‌ I agree they seem small, why sit that cycle out? Doesn't make sense. Also, my RE nurse calls me back the same day, ALWAYS!! I would get a second opinion. Good luck!!!

  • I agree with @apresmoi. I cannot imagine my RE telling me to sit out with only 3 semi-mature follicles. Especially on a cycle with just TI. Are you getting b/w done when you are getting your follicular ultrasound to check your levels? There's a chance those follies may not even develop, or at least they all wont.

And I'm so confused as to the long waits between your conversations. When I have an US done, I know right then and there what's going on. When I get blood work done, my RE is calling me within 2 hours.

This is just my opinion, so do with it what you will, but if your RE feels this way about TI with clomid, when you only have 3 semi-mature follies....I wouldn't even want to know his opinion on IUI's/IVF's. I would think he would be canceling every single round with that outlook. And that is not an outlook I would want for my IF care.

Sorry if that comes off bitchy. I'm not meaning to be bitchy to YOU. I just don't like the way the stuff your RE says is sounding. Sounds sketchy. I would consider another opinion for sure.

    Good luck!!!

  • Welcome, and sorry you have had to wait so long for treatment, and now are dealing with confusion this cycle!

Our RE recommended continuing with IUI if I get 3 follies, but we have male factor infertility, which brings our chances of triplets down to about 1.5%  if we have three mature follies. I am wondering if there's a specific reason that your doctor is especially concerned about multiples - perhaps HSG results showed a uterine anomaly that makes it riskier for you? Or did you mention in a consult that multiples was a worry of yours?

I don't know that I'd look for a new doctor just yet (as long as you are working with an RE), but I would ask for a consult to get some more details on his/her plan.

Perhaps, too, there were several follies getting close to that range, and they wanted to make sure that only 3 pulled out ahead before recommending TI?

Also, as far as the doctor assuming you O'ed because you got your period - from what you said, it didn't sound like your doctor was making a big foolish assumption, but rather looking retroactively at what had happened with your earlier doctor and letting you know that "probably" you O'd that time. And if you're getting multiple large follies on 50mg Clomid this time, it does seem likely that it worked before.

I hope this cycle ends up giving you great chances, and I know we would love an update after you've heard from the office to let us know how it works out!! Good luck. :)

  • OP.. why in the hell did you go back and "delete" those four posts? Clearing the text box when you edit doesn't make it go away.. it just makes everything seem weird

    Le sigh.
Dear lord I thought the wine got to my head! Thank you @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ for pointing out she deleted those posts. Thought I was going nuts. That said, I have nothing to advise bc I can't see what you wrote lol

  • I think perhaps the OP deleted the posts because she does not want to use a screen name with her full name?

OP if you're reading this, I hope you feel welcome to reintro with a new name and be a part of the group! :)

@iputketchuponketchup Usually I just skip past the booze chats but I have to say, a week-long committee project at work included a 2.5-hour lunch with wine for the heck of it (and because our chair is French!) and it was like opening the doors to a happier world. (DH and I rarely drink.) It was just a nice reminder of how self-medicating with some fabulous alcohol can be truly therapeutic. :)
