Give it time.  Some babies don't develop longer naps for another few months.
  • Loading the player...
  • Give it time. Ds is 3 and half months and we get an hour on average. Maybe one 2 hour nap. He's getting better as be grows.
  • my 11 wk old only naps long when im holding him, then he will sleep around 2 hours. otherwise very short naps

Sorry...you lost me at Babywise. A better book is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. It gives a lot of great info on what drives sleep in young children and what we, as parents, can do to promote longer, healthy sleep. The author does suggest CIO, but doesn't push it. He says that if you catch your child before they become over tired there is virtually no crying. This book has been a godsend this time around. ETA: also, your child is only 10 weeks. The author of HSHHC says you just have to go with the flow until about 3-4 months of age, although you should be reading and responding to your child's cues of early tiredness.

  • i know this is against the "rules" but since putting my daughter on her belly for naps she has been taking consistent 2 - 2 hour naps a day. She still sleeps on her side/back at night for now but during the nap time i just go in and check on her periodically and she has been doing just fine!!!
  • Have you tried a swing or bouncer or rocker? The motion might help to lull your little guy. My little guy likes to be cozy. So I put him in the rocker and put a muslin blanket on his feet and that works sometimes. Other times(especially at bed time) we swaddle him. It takes time be patient.
  • My lo laughs at afternoon naps. What i do is when I see her giving signs to be put down is lay her in her crib with her mobile. If she is awake, she may spend time staring, and if she is sleepy, she will sometimes cave and nap.

Being with my LO rocks! DD born 6/13/14.

  • My son slept in a swaddle for the first two weeks then I stopped. I realized he didn't sleep longer than 30 mins neither. So I decided to let him sleep on his belly but the husband and I would get scared about it sometimes so I tried the swaddle again, he's now 8 weeks old and is sleeping longer now that I've re-introduced swaddles back into our lives and it's been amazing to say the least.
  • Agree with PP, give it time. My LO started napping well at 5-6 months old. Before that it was hit or miss, and there was definitely a time around 12 weeks that he would only take 45 minute naps.

  • Lately DS wakes up after 30-40 min, so I have to keep picking him up, soothing him, and putting him back down. I lather-rinse-repeat for sometimes an hour or two and he eventually stays down for 2+ hours. Most days. He just doesn't get good rest in 30 minutes, but he's a really restless sleeper.

Same; he does this 4 times a day, so I think that usually nets out to the 4-5 hours of daytime sleep he needs. Ps- Holding him right now to squeeze in another 10-15 minutes!!
