Andddddd I'm having FTM panic about daycare

We put a deposit Dow n several months ago for daycare. They told us to call when he got here to confirm start date. They aren't returning my calls. I'm getting really antsy about it. We will be stopping by on Friday if we don't hear back. How hard is it to return a phone call?

  • Yikes.  I wonder if daycares are very busy right now ramping up for the new school year?  Is that how daycare works?

I just tried to call our daycare to let them know that DH would be stopping by to register LO and got a voicemail.  I didn't leave a message, but DH said they were very nice when he just popped in with no warning.

Confession - I couldn't go register LO myself because I'm not ready to think about leaving my baby with strangers.

  • We had to do that, turns out the director was out of town. Our daycare has a year long waiting list, and Dylan is number 1. They weren't sure if he would be able to be in the infant room since they are still waiting to move some into the 1 year old room, but when I was picking up ds1, she told me they are 95% confident that he will be able to start for sept. 2. Fingers crossed, it's always better to be pushy about this sort of thing.

  • I've worked in a few day cares and honestly if they can't return your call I wouldn't leave my child there. It's basic customer service and if they are that busy what else are they to busy for? To me it would show a lack of organization and attentiveness. Also when lo attends you'll want to be able to call and check in.

  • In my experience, daycares are the WORST at returning phone calls. Corporate America has either warped my sense of responsiveness and urgency, or they just don't give a fuck.

  • The day care we had lined up (a friend we trust) just informed us that she is moving out of state (coast guard family). So, I started contacting in home day cares locally. Only 2 have responded. One saying they are full. I interviewed/met/toured the other one today. I liked them. But, I would prefer to "like" them when compared to someone else.

But, I'm not sure I want to look into someplace that doesn't respond in less that 48 hours either.
  • I din't stress if they don't answer when I call DS's preschool/daycare. I assume they might be busy with the kids at the moment, especially if it is lunchtime but rrally any time. I'd rather they are responsive to the kids first, not the phone. Course I don't how pong it's been since you called; it shouldn't take days to return a call.

  • Last week I called and spoke to a teacher, and she said she would pass message along to the director. I didn't hear anything. This week I called 2 different days and left voicemails.

  • Oh no, that's not acceptable, they must not really want your business.
