Baby Names

Thoughts on two middle names?

We've had our future baby names picked out for years. Our first boy will be Levi Russell. Recently my DH suggested adding in a second middle name. The name he wants to add in is actually my dad's name. I never had any brothers and it's a sweet way to honor him. "Carry on the name" kinda thing. Although I love that he's so thoughtful, I'm not sold. We plan to have two or three so why use up all the names we like on #1? Just wondering what the general consensus is on two middle names?

Re: Thoughts on two middle names?

  • I think it's totally fine.

A dear old friend of mine had two MNs, and I always thought it was cool.  So cool, in fact, that if this baby is a boy, he'll have two MNs, one of which will be my maiden name.

  • Go for it... just consider the length of each name as any potential deterrent...otherwise, I see zero problem with it!

  • I don't really see the need.  Especially if you plan on having multiple kids.  To me, it always comes across as pretentious.  (I'm looking at you Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Busson)

  • I don't have a problem with it at all - I actually wish we were using two middle names for this baby, but Hubby won't get on board!

  • I have two given middle names, and honestly... it was kind of a pain throughout my childhood. Every test you ever take or form you fill out gives you only one box for middle initial. I had the challenge of trying to figure out which one to use!

I ended up dropping one of my middle names when I got married, because it was easier.
  • @blu-eyedwife‌ and @ValgalSF‌ those were my thoughts exactly. Thanks all for the feedback. Plus, and I realize how southern this may make me sound, I can't help but think of the monograming confusion! Lol!

  • I'm not a fan of them. I feel like the flow is thrown off with two middle names.

  • I don't like double names in any spot. Not the craziest thing but something I wouldn't do.

I think it's completely a personal choice, but see nothing wrong with it. It's common where I am from and in my family so I am ok with it.  Have you ever seen royals full names - some of them have 4 or 5 middle names! My DD have 2 middle names and the next one may also have two.

Oh, and I am not one who really cares about the "flow" of a name, so that's not a factor for me.
