Trouble TTC

Spoiler Alert: Pelvic Mass...

Hello Ladies,
Have you ever gotten a phone call from a doctor saying that they have a referral for you based on ultrasound results that you haven't gotten yet? Well, this happened to me and I am trying not to freak out. I went for a pelvic ultrasound on 8/13 and I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow (8/20) to go over the results of the ultrasound and a bunch of blood work. Well, this morning I got a phone call from the OBGyn office at the hospital where I had the ultrasound. She told me that my doctor put in a referral due to a pelvic mass. Needless to say I didn't know what to say. My sister has a history of fibroids so I knew it was a possibility for me. I am hoping that when I meet with my doctor tomorrow, she can shed some light on this. Unfortunately, I am going to be out of town for two weeks so the earliest appointment I could get is for 9/15.
Part of me is happy that something showed up on a test. However the other part of me has been reading all about the effects of fibroids on fertility and the chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby when uterine fibroids are present. I have also been thinking about some strange symptoms I have been experiencing for a while. Ever since I went off the pill, my periods have been REALLY heavy for the first day or so (**TMI** like changing a super absorbancy tampon every 3-4 hours). I also have pain during BD sometimes and the pain in concentrated on one side. I thought it was just my ovaries gearing up for ovulation. I am praying that there is some sort of easy fix for whatever this is and that we can finally get pregnant.
Do any of you have any words of wisdom that will keep me from freaking out?

Re: Spoiler Alert: Pelvic Mass...

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention that DH did a home male fertility test (it only checks sperm count) and the results were good. So we at least know that he has enough little swimmers. Now he just has to get checked for motility and morphology.

  • @Rumbera28, I literally laughed out loud when you said to stay away from Google! I am such a web-ochondriac! DH offered to go with me tomorrow, but he's at work so we will talk about it later.
    Thanks for your encouragement!

  • Pregnancy/child mentioned Like @Rumbera28‌ said stay away from google. It will only scare the hell out of you. My good friend has Fibroids and had two natural uneventful pregnancies so don't freak out.

  • Sorry about the scary news. :(

I would call back and request more information. There's no reason you should get only the communication that you need an appointment, and not a sentence or two to give you an idea what is going on with your body.

  • I have severe anxiety and FREAK out every time I get a vague call or voicemail from the doctors office and spend hours on end googling, thinking about the worst possible outcome and being a HOT mess until I get the answer. I want to say, it is out of your hands so try not to stress about it, but if you are anxious like me this advice is not very helpful. Instead try to keep your mind off things by drinking (my number 1 go to), hanging out with friends, making plans during the week or doing anything to keep your mind of things. I'm sure everything will be fine......GOOD LUCK!!

  • ************BFP Warning***********

Hang in there!   I had symptoms very similar to yours!  I ended up feeling incredibly uncomfortable during my cycle,  had to pee all the time,  and (at the risk of TMI)  ended up constipated from one of the fibroids pushing on my cervix, bladder, and colon areas.   For me they did turn out to be fibroids,  a variety pack of sorts.    I had a lapriscopic myomectomy  back in May and I feel like a whole new person!    I literally have not felt better in years.

The treatment process was scary,  but in the end I had a successful procedure,  a relatively easy recovery, and this evening I had a BFP!    Nothing confirmed yet, but if that is the case, then the removal may have been the key to our 2+ years of infertility (along with hachimoto thyroid).

Please do not hesitate to PM me if you have questions at all!  I was a wreck during the wait for diagnosis and treatment!
