Cloth Diapering

CD and daycare

How many diapers should I pack for him at the beginning? Should I put his name on all the diapers? What do you guys do for pants over the fluffy butt? Just go up a size? But then I think they're too long for him. Do you consider a onesie an outfit?

Re: CD and daycare

  • 6-7 diapers depending on how long he will be there.  I pack 1 for every 2 hours, plus an extra.

If there are multiply cloth diaper babies, yes mark them so that they are clearly identifiable.

I size up or get stretchy pants.  Different brands fit differently.  The only problems I've had are skirts with shorts or diaper liners built in and skinny jeans.  I just avoid those skirts for my daughter and look for woven pants not jeans.

I always send them with pants or in a romper.  Sleepers for the first few months (it's cold in the winter).

  • When I had ds in daycare last year, I also sent a handful of disposables as back up and so they could put him in one of those when they did artwork. I have souvenirs of his hand and foot prints done in paint as a result of his time there. At his daycare they stripped the babies down to bare diaper to protect clothes. Knit pants, rompers, and sleepers were his typical outfits during months 2-4 when he was in daycare.

  • First day of daycare for us today...but I sent enough for a change every 2 hours, plus 2 extra. I sent DS in a onesie and pants today because it was cold this morning, but I expect he'll just be in a onesie by the time I pick him up. We also have babylegs leggings for when pants are too much. He mostly fits in the right size clothes even with a fluffy butt, depending on the brand.

  • My daycare isn't overly familiar with cloth diapers so they have been changing him every hour. I would suggest packing more than you think you'll need. I typically just go with a onesie, but then again they keep the room pretty warm for the infants so there isn't a need for anything more.

I like to have 10 there, but that's because inevitably if I don't he'll poop through the 5 or 6 I do have there.  One time even 7.  I've had to go home and get diapers or pick him up early several times. That's what sucks about having to tell them he's allergic to sposies in order to get them to allow CD. Karma, I guess.  My kid poops a lot.
  • We keep 6 there.  She's only run out one time - and daycare put her in a back-up sposie they had FIVE minutes before I got there.  That's for a 9.5 to 10 hour day.
