Have you tried the high allergen risk foods?

So, out of the list of high risk have you let LO try any?

So far he's had egg without problem.  I thought about trying strawberries last night but he already was getting alot of new things he hadn't had (onion, bell pepper, garlic).  No tree nuts yet although I don't avoid eating them so he gets it through BM.

What other things has your LO shown an allergy to?

At LO's 6 month appt our dr said he could have anything except for honey. So we're not avoiding anything. However, we're going extremely slow with solids and doing BLW. Right now he's just playing with food more than eating it.
We are going the BLW route as well and he wasn't eating much.  But here in the last 1.5 weeks or so, he has started to EAT!  I now have to limit how much I give him.  He would eat it all otherwise.  We didn't get to see our pedi at the 6 month appointment.  We just saw a GP.  So I didn't get to ask about foods.

  • Well DS likes to sneak up on DD and steal her food. He hasn't had tree nuts. Pretty sure he got eggs and strawberries the other day.

  • Only thing we are avoiding now are honey and nuts. She loves eggs and strawberries!

  • We just recently started foods. I haven't tried any of the high allergen foods yet. Every two to 3 days I introduce a new food. There are still several we haven't tried

I first gave him a bite of egg out of my burrito at about 6 months 2 weeks.  After that I just kind did what tara did for about a month.  Cooked omlet style and cut in strips.  Now I just scramble and let him pick up the pieces to eat it.

Pretty recently, so almost 7 months. I gave her quiche (that was our dinner) and she ate more than DS did

  • None over here yet. I have a lot of food allergies so her pediatrician told us to try things a little later. I let her chew on a piece of honeydew (one of the things I have an allergy to) one evening and it made the area around her mouth break out almost instantly. My parents got annoyed with me when I told them they couldn't give her scrambled eggs yet, but with my history I'd rather just wait a bit longer.
  • @danaadell‌ what is this chart you speak of?

  • We've done eggs and he's got strawberries in a puree. Eggs were fun because I wasn't incredibly worried about choking. Pedi said to go ahead and intro peanutbutter but I'm waiting until we have a boring afternoon JIC. It's tough to sit him down and eat as a family because DH gets home around 7 and usually JJ is either asleep or on his way there by that time.

I hear ya. MH gets home about 7:30 on the nights he works.  I'm lucky if I don't have a screaming baby by that time of night.  Baby gets up at 6:30 to go to daycare and only naps maybe a total of 1-1.5 hours.  I usually have trouble even making a meal on those days because he is so cranky by the time we get home that he needs almost all my attention or he will be screaming.

  • Cow's milk, at my doctors suggestion (he won't take formula OR pumped BM). I've given him a little bit mixed into his oatmeal at night and he hasn't had any problems.

  • What about fish/seafood? Anyone started that? The only thing I've eaten that bothered LO (EBF-she had belly pain and diarrhea) was lobster so I'm thinking of waiting longer on seafood.

We're using this chart as well. I haven't discussed foods with our doctor aside from mentioning that we have introduced solids. He didn't have any follow up questions and I haven't had any concerns.

I haven't really thought of going ahead to other foods as DD hasn't even tried all of the ones the chart says she can eat now. I briefly considered BLW but H has a pretty severe fear of choking (he once tried to jump out of a moving vehicle when his little brother choked on gum, his seat belt was all that stopped him as in his panic he forgot to undo it. His mom pulled over before he could figure it out). He got super nervous when I mentioned it to him so I've stuck with purees and mashed food for the sake of his sanity. If we were doing BLW I'd probably be more inclined to introduce other foods.
  • We've given fish purée (salmon) mixed with potatoes and veg. DD loves it.

  • H has had fish and shrimp.  The fish was a blackened redfish and he had some shrimp out of fajitas.  No issues.  He loved both.

  • I have given it all pretty much except honey. Eggs, strawberries (basically her first food), peanut butter, salmon and probably a bunch of other foods too. I don't even know what else is high allergy risk. We do BLW so it hasn't been difficult to add stuff into her diet. Only in the last week though has she really actually eaten a noticeable amount of food.
