Baby Names

Suggestions?

Hi there! I'm a newbie to this board but would love some feedback on some names that DH and I have been considering for our March baby. We have an 18 mo DD named Nola (in honor of my Great Grandma) and we're trying to find some options that would work well with her name. She goes by "Nolie" mostly.

For girls we're considering Romilly, Adelaide, Eliza and Annalise/Annelise.  I dearly love Romilly, but we've received a lot of negative feedback for it. My Dad said it reminded him of lettuce of all things, but it's not out of the running. I have a crush on Adelaide but do NOT want her referred to as Addie. It's a cute nickname but with all the Addisons, Addilyns, etc., it's just too common.  DH isn't fond of Eliza, so that one might get scratched pretty early.  Annalise is a combo of all my other Great Grandmas (Anna, Nell, and Louisa).

Boy names are a bit more difficult for me. DH loves Atticus, Logan and Sawyer, but they don't seem to match with Nola. We're also considering Lachlan and Jude. Other than that.... I got nothin'. I would love to use Benjamin but it doesn't go with our last name.

Honest opinions? I can take it

  • Annelise and Lachlan are my faves on your list! I also love Adelaide but I hear you about all the Addies...it is a pretty popular nn. I don't think Romilly is bad...it might be unfamiliar to some people but Milly is a cute nn.

  • Ahhh, Maren.  I love that name and completely forgot about it. Thanks!

Romilly is more common in the UK. It's a place in France and there's some speculation that it's derived from the Hebrew name Romelia. I see it more often on the Nameberry site.

I'm glad you think Sawyer works with Nola.. It's rising to the top of our list since it's DH's favorite. We're using James as a middle name in honor of my FIL, I think Sawyer James is a handsome name.

  • Hi and welcome to the board! I'll dive right in: Romilly is very much not my cup of tea. It's a surname (FYI surnames aren't board favourites) and a name of a town in France. How about Romy? I really like Adelaide, but think the chance of her going by Addie is pretty high (especially when she would be a teen and can make up her own mind about what she'd like her nn to be), Eliza is lovely, Annalise I don't care for (I know quite a few, where I live it's a 70's/80's type of name). Would you consider using Louisa? I'm over Logan. Jude and Sawyer are nice. I love Atticus and Lachlan. My faves from your options are Atticus and Eliza. Suggestions: Ruby, Penelope, Maya, Clara, Cora, Estelle - George, Theodore, Sullivan, Clark, Dean, Grant or Graham.

  • Thanks for the feedback, ladies! I hear what you're all saying with Romilly.. Sigh.. I guess I should rethink that one.

  • I like Adelaide- but I'm with you on the NN Addie.  Eliza is gorgeous, but if hubby doesn't like, it's out. Not crazy about Romilly.

Suggestions for a girl- Romy, Elena, Matilda

For a boy I really like Jude!  Great name!

  • I'm pretty much echoing what everyone else has said. Adelaide, while lovely, will probably get grouped in with the Addies. Eliza is fine, but if your H doesn't like it, I'd toss it. Romilly is meh. I feel like I've read a book with a female Romilly and that's why it seemed normal-ish to me. Annaliese is pretty.
