I don't even know if I can find the words to type this...I just found out that a co-worker's infant granddaughter died. I am not a close friend of this woman, but my heart is breaking.
Full grapevine story: She has an 18 year old daughter who didn't tell her mom (my co-worker) that she was pregnant until about 7 months. The daughter gave birth at 8 months, the granddaughter was 4-6 weeks early (up to 8 weeks, depending on who you ask), and the granddaughter was in the NICU for about a month. I think the granddaughter had been home for about a month when the daughter put her down for a nap and the granddaughter never woke up. Just stopped breathing.
A bunch of people who know the co-worker better are at the granddaughter's funeral today, I couldn't bring myself to go because I wouldn't be able to keep it together.
I was just wondering if any of you thoughtful ladies had any suggestions on if/what I should do for this co-worker. I asked around and there was a collection of $$ for the medical bills since grandchildren aren't covered on our insurance policy, but it was given to the co-worker today. Should I just leave it alone, since we aren't close, or is there something I can do/say to help?
I feel sad and helpless, which is probably an ounce as bad as this poor girl.
Re: Serious sad warning, not kidding: advice needed (sad is not about me)
I couldn't find anything, but I will ask some of the people when they get back.
