Earliest you can get gender scan done?

I'm 13w 2d. My OB won't do it until 22w for whatever reason. I want to get an elective scan done for multiple reasons, but when is the earliest they can do it for accuracy? I have read up on this and seem to get different answers. Some say 14w is good, some say 16w.

Re: Earliest you can get gender scan done?

  • Some places will do them as early as 14-15wks... We did our elective scan at 15wk 6d and it was definitely a boy. I would wait closer to 16wks so things are more definite.

  • I'm getting so anxious to find out! :) another 3-4 weeks seems so long, but I know it will fly by. Thank you for your input! :)
  • I'm getting an elective one done next week- they recommend 16 weeks. So exciting!!
  • No problem! I would have waited for our anatomy scan if it hadn't been for my antsy husband! He was dyyyyingggg to know!
  • I am having mine done (well, it isn't a scan to find out the sexes, but I have frequent scans due to twins) tomorrow at 15w4d.  He said they should be able to tell us the sexes then with no issues (unless babies are modest....but so far they are ninjas moving all over the place).

  • We are doing an elective scan Saturday morning to find out gender! Where we are going they won't do anything with gender under you are at least 15w 0days. I'm 15 weeks today but my man is super antsy to find out and we have to know as we are having a gender reveal party in September.

  • Those of you that did an elective, did you do a 3D-4D or did you just get a regular 2D done? DH's work schedule is crazy and I love the idea of scheduling an elective on a weekend when no one is rushed and we can all find out together. But I don't know if a 4D would be wasted at that point in baby's development.

  • @maltwin1‌ ours was a combination 2d/4d- most of the ultrasound was 2d. She showed us the bladder, stomach and his turtle lol. We also watched him swim around and kick the crap out of me (and it still baffles me that I can't feel anything yet...) She also flipped on the 4d a couple of times, which was neat- but obviously looks a little strange bc he doesn't hardly have any fat, so there's not much to see.
  • My g/f is an u/s tech and she said not to waste your money w/ 3D until your a lot later in your pregnancy.

  • My OB practice will do an elective at 16 weeks, but there are places that do it even earlier than that! We chose to have it done at our OB's office at the 16 week mark.
