My lo will NOT burp when you pat him. I have to move him around. Like last him down fit him up, turn him over from tummy to back etc. Maybe try a different method
My DH rocks at burping, and I am fail. Elias is usually trying to tear out chunks of my hair when I shoulder burp him. Today he flopped face down on my nursing pillow and I rubbed his back and that seemed to help him. He's happy like that so is still that way now, breathing heavily against my boob. I have to try lots of weird ways to burp this kiddo.
I have to sit my lo down on my leg. And lean her body forward making like a triangle. This really is the only way I've been able to get her to burp. I hold her chin to keep her airway as wide open as possible.
Spencer burps best when bounced up and down with his legs on my chest. DH is better at this than me, because his hands are big enough to rub DS's back at the same time.

I have to do this as well. I also bounce my leg a little to help get the bubble dislodged.
I hold him on my leg, alternate between patting and rubbing and he will sit up more when rubbed and dislodge things. my other ds, we tried so many holds, he was never happy- ever. I feel your pain.
DD loves being on my shoulder, but rarely burps for me. I pat her back with no burp then when I move her she usually burps if she needs to. DS was the same way, didn't burl with patting just moving around. Neither of them burp that often though. DS belches like a sailor now, I have gotten dirty looks when out because people think it's me.
It's not that LO doesn't burp it's just that he is clawing my neck and bopping around like crazy the entire time. I have tried in my lap also and it's the same thing until he is full and the entire feeding is almost over
Re: Burping
Perhaps you should look up some different techniques on burping your baby? Either way, I wouldn't suggest stopping. A gassy baby is a ragey baby.
