amniotic band

I'm having a very bad day. Went for my 20 week appt. first the sono tech tells me everything is perfect. I'm thrilled! Then I see the dr. Tells me I have an amniotic band and that it's very rare. That its not touching the baby now. Tells me I have to have a sono by a specialist to look into it bc he's only seen it 5 times. But tells me the risk is the baby can get tangled in it and become strangled. But that he thinks everything will be fine. Tells me not to google it bc I can always find worse case scenerio. So of course I google it. I'm beyond hysterical. Seeing that it can cause amputation, missing fingers etc.. I have to wait 10 days for my appt w the specialist.
Is anyone familiar with this? Is having an amniotic band the same as amniotic band syndrome?

I actually do know of someone this happened to ....their story isn't too happy but sounds like they had a pretty severe case of this whereas your baby sounds like he/she is out of the way. Hopefully the next ultrasound can give you some better piece of mind. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I can ask my friend.

I've heard about this but never known anyone to have it. It sounds like your case is not as severe. I hope you can get in to the specialist quickly. Many positive thoughts your way!

Thinking of you, hopefully you can get some answers on Thursday I have a synechiae which is similar to an amniotic band. Which also was found at my A/S. Placement of the band is important hopefully yours will be out of the way and baby will have no problems. Just hang in there until you see the dr.

Not sure if what I had was the same thing as what you had.  But at my NT scan, they saw a band of what the assume was scar tissue (from 2 previous D&Cs)  in my ute.  I was monitored more closely by an MFM. (had monthly u/s) By the time I had my AS, they could see that the band of tissue was moving off to the side of my uterus due to a growing baby and ute.  By 30 weeks, (I think) you couldn't even see the band anymore.  It was definitely scary, but my doctors were all very informative and reassuring.

I think the scar tissue did prevent progress while I was in labor (I was stalled at 3-4 cm in triage) and a nurse had to manually remove/move it out of the way, but that wasn't too big of a deal.  

I know @RosiePeare had something similar to this as well.  And now we both have beautiful, healthy rainbows!

I hope your story turns out like ours; extra monitoring, but just to be cautious because everything is fine.

I am PGAL (13 weeks) but haven't intro'd here. I need to.

Anyway, when I was pregnant with DS, I was told I had an amniotic band at around 9 weeks. He told me what it was and of course, I freaked out. He also told me the possibility of it being "old blood". He said if I spot/bleed and it's brown, that's probably what it was and no need to worry. I would have a follow up ultrasound in a 2 weeks. Well I was a mess those 2 weeks because I never bled. I was in tears when I went back and told him I didn't bleed. He did another u/s and it was gone. He told me my body may have absorbed the blood (??). I know 20 weeks is different than 9, but maybe it's blood?

I know the fear of being told you may have an amniotic band. I am hoping all is well for you and you have a healthy baby. T&P!!

No experience. Try the high risk board, or search the bump on high risk. Maybe someone has posted something. Good luck!
